Microsoft Surface Windows RT 32 GB: NO HEADACHE WITH THIS TABLET
4 weeks ago
Summary: MICROSOFT SURFACE TABLET I am lucky enough to own a laptop and a desktop but decided a tablet would also be nice to own. I thought a tablet would be good as they are more portable than a laptop and so would be useful to me for several reasons. But I am far from being technical and knew little about tablets. I did some research on-line and then went out to look in a few high street stores at various tablets.
Pros: Light, compatible keyboards available, has word etc...
Summary: I've owned and used tablets consistently over the past few years. This tablet is efficient, fast, and seems quite good overall in terms of performance. However, the OS is quite complicated. To get this tablet to play flash in more sites than just what's "allowed" by Microsoft, you need to make some modifications on your own. They aren't difficult changes for someone that's very familiar with windows, but if you're not, than this tablet's OS will frustrate you.
Summary: I have owned many tablets ipad2, ipad mini, BB playbook, Nexus 10. The Surface RT reminds me of the BlackBerry Playbook. The good features: - Case with flip out back plate and overall design - Office included - Microsoft support - Wi-Fi worked well - Full size USB 2 - Micro SD support The short comings: - processor slow and outdated - poor cameras - distorted sound from speakers - screen quality issues (returned 2 for dead pixels and light bleed at the edge) - Windows RT...
Summary: After seeing a few commercials and doing some research, I decided to go with the Surface. So far I am very happy with it! Startup is fast, it feels well built and the screen is very clear and responsive. I just started using Windows 8 so I'm glad it is the actual OS and not just a "look a like" version. I highly recommend the Surface to anyone in the market for a tablet.
Summary: Be warned - if you're expecting this to act as a regular win8 machine - it won't. The RT version of Win8 installed is severely limited in what it can do and what it allows you to install. No Java support means a lot of the web is outside your grasp, Flash is a PIA to install - and even overly ubiquitous programs (iTunes for example) will NOT run on the RT version.
Summary: tried the Surface for a couple of days and it made me sick. I can't play my facebook games, it lags and I can't watch movie without the lag. I can't chat in some of my favorite social networking site as it requires me to install Flash. This item is only good when you are browsing or creating documents... not good for entertainment... I'm returning this item and will just get a new laptop or Android tablet instead.
Summary: This device has some solid hardware. That's about all it has going for it. The RT device cannot run any Windows "desktop" applications other than the bundled version of office that is included. That being said wouldn't be so bad if the metro only operating system had the kind of selection of quality and variety of applications that the iPad has. The fact is it doesn't. The eco system for the RT tablet is lacking. [...] Be careful about considering this device.
Summary: Surface RT is super light, features a USB port and lasts about 7-8 hours which is amazing. The built-in kickstand means that you don't have to put it in a case that makes bulky. All you need is the thin keyboard which acts as a cover and you're good to go!
