  • Conclusion: The LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer offers the coolness of a tablet with some solid learning tools for kids.
  • Pros: Intuitive interface. Bright, color touch screen. Rugged chassis. 2GB of onboard memory. Built-in camera and video recorder. Controls are easy to use. Has more than 100 applets available for download. Accelerometer. Can use the same game cartridges as the Leapster Explorer. Games are a proper combination of fun and learning.
  • Cons: No card slot. No recharger available yet. Gaming cartridges are pricey.

  • Conclusion: If you are fed up of your young kids stealing your tablet all the time, for £80 this is a great purchase that will let them learn from apps that have been specifically designed for that task. Our test subjects William and Emily really liked the LeapPad, however soon tired of the device, preferring our iPad, with the bigger selection of games and movies to watch.
  • Pros: cheap, designed for kids, easy to use, good apps
  • Cons: If you've got an iPad, your kids won't want it
