Excerpt: So like many other devices that were touch screen I have heard of how easily it would break down where the touching mechanism would no longer work. I needed a laptop desperately to use in class because I was a very slow hand writer and my typing skills were very good, so I saw the touchsmart and thought it would be great to type and draw figures that I would need when taking notes.
Summary: I bought three of these to use at the office, and two of them have already died the infamous "blinking lights and dead screen" death, after about two years of use. They do run extremely hot, and if you have one that still is running I recommend you turn all the power management settings to maximum power savings, even when plugged in, to try and extend its life. Another problem with this model is the very soft plastic on the screen.
Summary: I bought my TX2Z shortly before starting a college program. It lasted just under 2 years before the motherboard failed. About 6 months or so after purchase, the CPU cooling fan began to run much more frequently. After about a year, it ran constantly. I frequently used compressed air to blow out the vents (the cooling fins appeared clean) and even removed the DVD drive, in case it was helping to cause the heat build-up.
Summary: Normally I don't review products but I thought that my experience with this computer was worth sharing I got this computer because of its 'cool' factor. I love the tablet feature PROS cool computer-tablets are awsome and my friends love playing with it etching- i really like the etching trackpad- i like the trackpad it has good grip CONS touchscreen isnt responsive- i bought this computer for the touchscreen and within 2 months it failed!!!!!
Summary: I've had this laptop for a little less than a year, and I'm already buying a new one. I had the power supply fail and several keyboard keys that work intermittently. The touch pad has always been flaky and the mouse cursor tends to randomly jump around the screen.
Summary: If you uninstall everything on this machine, every last bit of software, including the OS, then install a decent OS and the software you actually want, it will run fine. If you buy it as configured from HP, it simply will not work for very long. I got this as a gift, and it ran for three months before Vista crashed permanently, so badly that it could not be recovered and I had to install all new OS & software from scratch.
Summary: The case is stylish enough but doesn't fit my laptop very well. Since the battery sticks out of the back of the laptop, the case doesn't fit correctly and it is VERY difficult to put on and take off.
