Nice Tablet, but I like my Kindle Fire HD more.

immichou, Amazon
9 December 2013
  • Summary: Couldn't beat the low price when I bought it. Can't find a case that fits the odd shape, but it is a great little tablet, have to do some minor tweaks to it to make it play Netflix but there are simple instructions on Youtube that can help you.

Great WiFi Tablet running FroYo (2.2.1)

Kerry O., Newegg
5 December 2011
  • Summary: This is a great wi-fi only tablet with good options and features. My number one priority was to find a tablet that was being supported and improved by the manufacturer. Archos was the only manufacturer with a unit under $300 that I could find that regularly updated their firmware and updated the...
  • Pros: Manufacturer Support - 14 firmware updates since initial release, including Android 2.1 to 2.2. Customer support is responsive and knowledgeable. Battery Life - is good in most cases...some games will drain it faster Size - Perfect for landscape use, light weight Accessory Ports - USB, micro USB,...
  • Cons: WiFi - When you setup a connection, make sure that you check the Powersave Disabled box, otherwise it will keep turning off your connection (which gave me problems syncing up arctools.) Android Marketplace not installed - You have to install this yourself using ArcTools from the Archos Apps Lib (...

Great hacker-friendly tablet

Rory B., Newegg
1 December 2011
  • Summary: * Updated to fw 2.4.80 * Installed UrukDroid 1.6RC4 (upgraded from 1.5) - please note that this involves installing the Special Developer Edition firmware from Archos, which voids your warranty * The default market, Appslib, is somewhat out of date but contains a ton of apps for tablets.
  • Pros: * Great screen resolution * Bluetooth + wifi for maximum connectivity (later firmwares even allow you to tether your tablet to your cell phone for internet access!) * Well supported hardware makes development a breeze! * Full USB port allows tablet to server as USB host device (with software mod)...
  • Cons: * Live wallpapers (which seem to be all the rage) are somewhat of a resource hog * Camera is grainy, low-resolution. Please note that this is a front-facing cam which Android 2.2 does not always allow apps to access * Comes with 2.2 when most devices these days have 2.3 * Archos probably will not...

Satisfies My Needs

Raymond D., Newegg
29 August 2011
  • Summary: I like its size, weight and dimensions. It suits me just fine.
  • Pros: Battery life seems great. It does everything I need. My needs are very modest. I like to read and this tab provides me with all the reading material I could want and a great deal more in terms of other capabilities. I really liked getting it at such a reasonable price.
  • Cons: None so far.

I don't useally write reviews but...

David M., Newegg
8 July 2011
  • Pros: I'll admit that i am usually not one to write reviews, i consider myself to be quite the lurker (the Narwhal bacons at midnight btw) But i was so impressed with Archos support that i thought i would return the favor. When my tablet's screen leaked from an unknown impact. and i learned that my tab...
  • Cons: Although this tablet was a bit sluggish in its first generation subsequent generations fixed this problem with an upgraded processor.

Archos 101, 8GB

Ronald D., Newegg
15 May 2011
  • Summary: How can people who cannot get a DOA to charge give a device a 1-egg review on that basis? You got a brick; it happens; get over it. How about reviewing *working* devices? People who say: 'It's not a Bentley' or 'get an iPad/Xoom if you can afford it'...are missing the point entirely.
  • Pros: 1. Capacitive touch screen; 2. Plenty of RAM and storage space, if you know what you're doing (or can read/comprehend the instructions of those who know what they're doing); 3. Device is very zippy: Get full Google Market from ARCTOOLS.apk on AppLib, then never install anything from AppLib again;...
  • Cons: 1. Low RAM (get Advanced Task Killer Free from Market: Fixed); 2. 8 GB internal storage fills up pretty fast (get a 16-32GB ext SDHC and App 2 SD Free from Market: Fixed); 3. Screen viewing angles are only acceptable for up to 2 persons (plug device into 1080p 60" LED panel with optional mini HDM...

Cheap price, Good product.

Benjamin Kane, Amazon
6 May 2011
  • Summary: When apple released the ipad, I thought is was a cool device, but way overpriced. I was glad when Archos released this for waayy less money. I did a lot of research before buying the 101.
