Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 Inch Review
21 October 2013
Excerpt: [dropcap]S[/dropcap]o as a nerd I was really pretty excited to check out the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9. There were a number of reasons, I love the idea of a reader and the 10+” tablet I have now is just too big to be a real reader. I know an inch and change doesn’t make a big difference on paper, but in practice I assure you that it does.
Excerpt: The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is a full-size version of Amazon's popular 7 inch tab. Offering excellent value and with easy access to Amazon's content library, it's hard to beat for all but the most demanding users.
Conclusion: The Kindle Fire HD 8.9 as a dedicated e-reader does one of the best jobs in the business. The store offers a copious amount of newspapers, magazines, books, audiobooks, and other content to keep you permanently glued to it. The large screen is more suitable than the seven inch Kindle Fire and I like this unit better than the Nook HD+. The Dolby Surround Sound is one of the best hardware features that take audio content to a completely different level.
Pros: Dolby Surround Sound, Whispersync for Voice, Immersion Reading, and X-Ray, Deep and Expansive ecosystem, Gorilla Glass, High Resolution, Long Battery Life
Cons: User Loaded Apps Tend to look Pixelated in the Carousel, “Customers Also Bought” Gets in the Way on the Main Menu, Lots of Hoops to Jump through If You Don’t Live in the USA, Newspaper Selection Lacks
Conclusion: It has a great screen, decent speakers and easy access to the biggest library of content in the world. If you want to watch, listen, play or read, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is a very nice piece of kit. It doesn't have the versatility of the iPad or most Android tablets for creation or social networking, but so long as you know what you want it for, it's well worth a look.
Excerpt: In design terms, the 8.9-inch flaunts an all-black colour scheme and rubberized back with metal strip. That rubberized back looks smart and easy to handle. The screen size comes with dimensions of 239mm wide, 163mm tall and is 9mm thick which is convenient and easy to hold in one hand while reading for at least an hour. It is a well constructed slate and can be chucked into any carry-on luggage.
