The Acer Iconia Tab A700 gets a high-res screen, shoddy implementation

CNET
26 November 2012
  • Summary: The Acer Iconia Tab A700 overreaches with its high-res screen and is ultimately outclassed by tablets that offer better experiences for the money.
  • Pros: The Acer Iconia Tab A700's high-res screen sharpens text and graphics to near-iPad Retina levels. Also, it's comfortable to hold and includes both Micro-HDMI and microSD.
  • Cons: The base version of the Tegra 3 can't keep up with the high-res display, resulting in frequent hangs and stutters while navigating. The cameras are unimpressive.

  • Conclusion: The A700 feels like an ambitious device that maybe was released a little too early. With some more time spent finalizing engineering issues, perhaps some of those hardware problems we spoke of could have been adequately addressed. The heat problem, especially, is one that seems like someone really should have taken the time to investigate prior to the tablet’s release.
  • Pros: + Big, beautiful, high-res display, + Dolby Mobile audio surprisingly effective; big, full sound, + Excellent responsiveness to screen rotations, + Small but decent selection of pre-loaded apps, The A700 feels like an ambitious device that maybe was released a little too early. • Cons: - Frame rates not as smooth as we’d hoped, - Build quality issues with backlight, overheating, - Our model’s camera was on the fritz, - A bit on the heavy side, but it’s not a dealbreaker, The A700 feels like an ambitious device that maybe was released a little too early. With some more time spent finalizing engineering issues, perhaps some of those hardware problems we spoke of could have been adequately addressed. Acer Iconia Tab A700 Tablet Review

TechSpot
10 August 2012
  • Conclusion: The Acer Iconia Tab A700 is an appropriate upgrade to Acer's earlier efforts, but it doesn't really go far enough to make it a viable choice for new tablet buyers. Its sluggish performance and cheap feel make it hard to recommend against the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity or the Apple iPad.

22 August 2012
  • Summary: The Iconia Tab A700 has a 10.1in display, which is great for films. It is quite heavy and chunky and despite its quad-core chip, is prone to the odd slowdown. However, for watching films and playing games it’s a good choice.
  • Pros: Clear full HD screen, lots of storage space, impressive battery life
  • Cons: Some slowdown, chunky chassis
