Great, great, great all around mic.

  • Excerpt: I have three. I have a several other mics with "better specs". Forget the specs and trust your ears. The VP88 sound is uncolored - which bothers a lot of people. The sound field is perfect, which bothers a lot of people. Only problem is a bit of built in noise, I can't deny that. I do a lot of "drive-by" live recordings with built in ambient noise, so this is no problem for me.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight, Versatile

A stereo mic for everything

DTO, B&H Photo
3 May 2012
  • Excerpt: While it may have been designed as a Video Production mic, the VP88 is a great all around stereo mic for concert productions. I have used it on acoustic guitar, marimba, vibes, bottle organs and 40 piece orchestra with CD quality results. The patterns all work and make a difference and it's easy to place and use. A great tool to have in your mic locker.

  • Excerpt: After many years of haveing one VP88, I needed another stereo mic for my 2nd camera. Giving me the best audio in the field, it was a no brainer to get a 2nd one. I am so happy they still had this mic for sale. I own about eight different mic's and by far the VP88 is the best.

Great sounding stereo mic!

pattih95, Ebay
24 April 2009
  • Summary: The VP-88 is a great mic for 5.1! I mix about 60 sporting events a year for television and use 3 VP-88s to create my 5.1 soundfield. I usually use the mics in the M/S config and let the audio console decode it to stereo. The stereo image is quite good and translates well into mono. Happy mixing!

" Essential"

JBii, Audiofanzine
11 April 2014
  • Excerpt: I work exclusively live and I use the microphone Atmosphere Battery for six years, for all types of music. I use a compressor as needed. This is the most natural I've found to do this micro couple of Schoeps excluded, of course. It is not too bright, and most of the time, I use it right, possibly with a low cut. The cardioid dire...

"My new field mic!"

stompboxjon, Audiofanzine
13 February 2013
  • Excerpt: One of the cartridges forward and it has a cardioids pick up pattern and the other is a bi directional pattern and it is on the side of the microphone. Right on the front of the microphone there are different options to choose from to get the best possible stereo image separation that you may want to use. But I really don’t use that option that ...

  • Excerpt: Being unique in make up, the Shure VP88 can be used for all sorts of different applications as it boasts a great deal of versatility. While a stereo microphone might not be the best mic for some applications, in the applications that it does work on, it works extremely well. I've used the VP88 for recording a few different things in a professi...
