Cheap yet noisy.

John the Disenfranchised, B&H Photo
9 April 2013
  • Excerpt: This is a cheap microphone and the noise level makes that fact evident. The capsule is also huge by today's standards. It's like hiding a tube of lipstick on someone's collar. My next purchase from B&H will be a higher quality/more expensive microphone.
  • Pros: Cheap, No Phantom Power Required
  • Cons: Bulky/Heavy, Noisy, Poor Sound Quality

musical instrument use

18 February 2013
  • Excerpt: I am using this lav mic to amplify a 5 string banjo. I had been using a generic electret battery driven lav mic (think radio shack) for that purpose, replacing the mini-plug with a female 1/4 inch, then using a standard guitar cord, plugging into a Baggs Para DI, then into the board of the sound system with an xlr mic line. That was OK, but I had lots of thin wire to coil, a fragile battery pod and the nusiance of dead watch batteries if I forgot to switch the thing off.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight, Versatile

Good not great

Audio Prof Heather, B&H Photo
7 May 2012
  • Excerpt: Wanted a lav for to record audio of field intevews but not have to hold a mic or recorder to keep hands free for paper work. Becuase it's a dynamic mic, I expected a lower level, but the levels are fairly good. It is great under breezy conditions without a windscreeen. Biggest drawback is a slight hum but easy to EQ and deal with.
  • Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Good in wind
  • Cons: Limited Functions, Poor Sound Quality

Great rock-solid lav at a decent price

  • Excerpt: We use these for our High School Morning Announcements show, so they get used and abused by the students. Just replaced one that was over 10 years old, so they have a pretty track record with me.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Durable, Easy To Use

Basic and Reliable!

Pete the Sound Guy, B&H Photo
24 January 2012
  • Excerpt: We needed to add two more lavalier mics for a religious "talk show" environment for local cable broadcast. No need for wireless; we already have a couple of AT condensor lavs, which are fine but delicate, and folks constantly run the batteries down, etc. We got these almost overnite from B&H (the only vendor where I could find these venerable mics!). They simply work as promised.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight, No fussing with beltpacks, Versatile
  • Cons: Lower out than a cap mic

Go Wired

Kevin, B&H Photo
6 October 2011
  • Excerpt: I personally would much rather shoot with a wired lav, it just cuts down the issues with wireless. This is a good entry level pro lav. It's a tad on the big side, but really sounds great.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Use, Lightweight, Versatile
  • Cons: Bulky/Heavy

Smooth Operator

Buurma, B&H Photo
4 October 2011
  • Excerpt: We've been using this wired lapel mic for video work and it does a fantastic job capturing the human voice without other ambient noises. The microphone is very accurate, but on the quiet side, so the levels need to be boosted to get a good signal.
