The trusty NTG-2

  • Excerpt: Great shotgun in it's price range. Not the cleanest or lowest noise shotgun out there, but it blows on camera mics out of the water and has pretty decent directionality. I wouldn't go for any other mic in it's price range.
  • Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight, Versatile
  • Cons: Poor Sound Quality

Great sound, but some room for improvement.

  • Excerpt: I use this with my Sony PWX-FS7. It's a great mic for the most part and I'd recommend it but it has a few short comings. The only way to turn off the battery power is to unscrew the battery case and pull the batteries out. There is no power switch.
  • Pros: Durable
  • Cons: Limited Functions

Perfection

  • Excerpt: This product is great for production use in terms of short films, weddings, interviews and gets great audio if pointed in the right direction. If you're not use to audio equipment, make sure you learn before purchasing because this mic doesn't pic up ambient sounds as well unless pointed in that direction.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight, Versatile
  • Cons: Pricey / Poor Value

Using a H4n so I had to buy a FetHead

  • Excerpt: For the price, it's a fantastic bit of gear however I found that the sound was overall a little flat. I'm obviously comparing this to a NTG-3 which is by far a superiour product and definitely worth the extra cash if you're using it for corporate or professional gigs. Also when using the NTG-2 with a Zoom H4n the sound has a hiss.

  • Excerpt: I got this as part of a kit including every accessory you would need in a basic boom set up. It was under $ and for my needs this is perfect. I have a Zoom recorder and another lav mic and this is perfect. I know there are mire expensive kits but I do video work for a living and this is great for me.

RODE NTG-2 for VO

  • Excerpt: I recently purchased the RODE NGT-2 shotgun mic for voice overs. I have a number of mics and I love to check out and buy new ones. After reading about people using shotguns for VO I decided to join the band wagon. The Senn 416 of course came up, but so did the price so I thought this would be a nice way to try this style. My new NGT-2 arrived quickly from B and H and I plugged it right into my current interface and computer.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Good bass
  • Cons: NONE YET

Clear sound

  • Excerpt: We use this mic for recording videos at a high school. It has great sound, but it can distort if sound levels are too high. Be prepared to use ATT for singing or loud talking.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight
