The trusty NTG-2

Jason, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: Great shotgun in it's price range. Not the cleanest or lowest noise shotgun out there, but it blows on camera mics out of the water and has pretty decent directionality. I wouldn't go for any other mic in it's price range.
  • Pros: Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight, Versatile
  • Cons: Poor Sound Quality

Great sound, but some room for improvement.

  • Excerpt: I use this with my Sony PWX-FS7. It's a great mic for the most part and I'd recommend it but it has a few short comings. The only way to turn off the battery power is to unscrew the battery case and pull the batteries out. There is no power switch.
  • Pros: Durable
  • Cons: Limited Functions

  • Excerpt: I've only had this thing a little while and I can't figure out why yet, but this thing absolutely eats batteries. The sound quality is great but we went through 16 batteries in 2 hours of videos using this with an H4N.

Good upgrade

AB3, B&H Photo
19 January 2015
  • Excerpt: My first professional grade microphone that isn't camera mounted. Bought this as part of a bundle with a boom pole and connection accessories. Everything feels professional grade and the sound is REALLY good. I don't think I would have jumped on this without the bundle though. I got a boom pole, and various connections that enable me to put it on the camera as well as use on a boom. I am extremely happy with this.

  • Excerpt: Actually NTG-2 is really good microphone for outdoor and indoor. And I personally love it because it gave me excellent sound more than I expected. Also, it has stereo sound and it can capture sound from 3 frets away from you. That's why if is really worth it and I definitely recommend this microphone to everyone of they really want excellent sound quality.
