  • Summary: I find the Rode NT-3 to be a very nice mic for stage use, works well on accoustic guitar, and works well on hi-hat. Nice mic for the price.

  • Excerpt: A very nice mic. I am not an audiophile but this mic sounds excellent to me. Very low noise and a very high peaking threshold. Outstanding build quality if a bit heavy. Love it.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Durable, Easy To Use, Versatile

Awesome Microphone!

MikeP, B&H Photo
9 May 2013
  • Excerpt: I bought this mic to use for recording indoor dialogue in a low budget indie film production that will soon commence. I have performed several tests with this mic using a Tascam DR-40 Protable Recorder. The sound quality on this thing is amazing! Crisp and clear! The only thing that I can see that people wouldn't like about this mic is probably the weight. At the end of a boom pole it can get tiring after a while, but that doesn't bother me.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Durable, Easy To Use, Versatile
  • Cons: Bulky/Heavy

Sounds good

  • Excerpt: From my research, this was the mic to have for indoor use. I've only used it once so far, but it sounds good. 9V battery power is nice, although I use 48v from my MixPre-D and it sounds very clear. Great for the price. Heavy.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Use
  • Cons: Bulky/Heavy

Good for Indoor Dual Interviews

Ben Jobe, B&H Photo
26 February 2011
  • Excerpt: I'm using this microphone to shoot video interviews with two people at once. I position the microphone between them and it's cardioid pattern picks up both of them just fine. Before I got this NT-3 cardioid I was using my NTG-2 shotgun for these interviews and I couldn't get the audio right. Now it's a cinch. I also like that it has an On/Off switch which should help to conserve battery life. The only drawback is that it's bigger and heavier than my shotgun mic.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Use
  • Cons: Bulky/Heavy

DELICIOUS

  • Excerpt: I have been after a good clear micrphone for a long time, and with the NT3 i was not dissapointed! As soon as i got it plugged in the sound was deliciously crisp and clear. The only downside to the product is sometimes it isnt clear when it is switched on, the light only flashes once if its not low on battery, which can be odd. But still you get used to it! Great mic!

A good cardioid mic

zanshinkc, Ebay
24 November 2010
  • Summary: The Rode NT3 microphone has been widely acknowledged as a high-value mic for the money by musicians, but not everyone knows it's a great choice for both aspiring and accomplished indie filmmakers. The price is very reasonable for those starting to build their kit (can be great when you buy them used), and the cardioid pickup pattern is a much better choice for indoor shooting than even an expensive shotgun, as they won't leave you with the hollow and echoed sound...

Fantastic mic

Larsenjazz Productions, B&H Photo
14 August 2010
  • Excerpt: This microphone is a great workhorse mic around the studio. It works great for guitars, drum overheads, vocals, horns, and lots of other things. It is very sensitive so you get a lot of detail, but be careful around loud extra noises. It tends to pick up lots of room noises since it is so sensitve. It also performs very well as a field recording mic in a stereo pair or just mono. That is what I bought this mic for originally but I just keep finding more uses for it.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Durable, Easy To Use, Versatile
  • Cons: none
