Drum overheads and guitar cabs.

englishpigdog, Ebay
9 June 2014
  • Summary: Go-to mic for drum overheads and Glyn John's drum mic technique. Snare jumps out in a good way....also great paired up with the Beyer M201 dynamic mic on guitar cabs. Have a pair of these and would not mind another pair for the mic locker. Check out the recording techniques of people like Eddie Kramer and you will see this mic mentioned as indispensible.

Money well spent

  • Summary: Just a beautiful little mic that has a smooth sound. The difference between it and the SM57 I was using before is striking. The M160 is fatter, cleaner, and much easier on the ears. Plus, it's a ribbon mic that can being put right up against the grill of a guitar amp. What's not to love?

zweygoat, Ebay
14 September 2011
  • Summary: I have only had this microphone for a week but I can see why it is so popular. It has a very nice, smooth, clean sound with an enhanced.colored midrange presence. Well built and surprisingly small. I wish I had two more!

  • Summary: The mic is perfect, it's great for guitar cabs. I ordered it through an ebay member and I actually went to his house in Los Angeles and picked it up. He was very nice and all went well. I am very happy with my new Beyerdynamic M160 robbon ic.

  • Summary: The M160 is the classic ribbon. Why do you think Hendrix and Zepp sound so good? Guitars, Strings, Drums, Vocals, whatever!! This microphone can handle all your needs. Tone for days. Nice rejection with its excellent hypercardioid pattern.. Solid Solid Solid...will last you a lifetime...Literally.

" One of my favorite mics"

Robin Schneider, Audiofanzine
22 January 2014
  • Excerpt: I have a pair of M160 that I use for almost a year now. I also use AEA R84, a Sontronics Saturn ... The M160 is for me one of the best quality-price ratio of the market if we take care and we have a beefy preamp behind. This is a really good microphone that will do a good record of all sources, especially if they h...

" Designed but not Reconu" - mad

  • Excerpt: I had the opportunity to use it on an album Overhead, transplanted and transplanted guitar amp acoustic guitar (doubled with a 451). This is the first time I used the tape, and certainly not the last. Of transients just sublime overhead in soft, not aggressive (compared to the SM81, E614, NT5). On the acoustic guitar, he b...

"Multi Purpose"

stompboxjon, Audiofanzine
2 October 2012
  • Excerpt: The Beyer Dynamic M 160 comes with a small case to carry it in and a microhpone clip. The M 160 seems to be pretty fragile though, I wouldn’t take my chances with dropping it. I do wish it came with a hard case to protect it more when we have other gear around it when moving it from place to place. The M 160 only cost us around 5...
