Summary: Even though the 12ax7 is a good tube, you will want to change this out for a JAN Philips 5751 Black Sable. It will compare to Pre Amps that cost 2K+. But changing the tube out is no easy task. I did it but it wasn't easy.
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Use, Powerful, Professional Functions, Versatile, Warmth
Summary: I originally bought a Rode NT-1 microphone and the AVID M-Box Mini for connection to my digital audio workstation (DAW). Maybe I chose my components poorly, but the AVID M-Box Mini didn't seem to have the guts to properly drive the signals from the Rode microphone. It could be an impedance mismatch.
Excerpt: I use this preamp to add a touch tube warmth to my DAW. I really like the new hybrid type of gear that is coming out lately. It is the best of both worlds. For instance, the clarity of transistors and the warmth from even harmonics of vacuum tubes.
Excerpt: For any guitatist seeking headphone ready tone, I have 2 Ultra G's (stereo) This is the PERFECT MATCH!!! The phantom power drives both of them, and puts the tube in the mix as well, OH YEAH!!!
Summary: Its cool. Great little features and gets the job done. If you can't pay attention though, don't get it. It will make you pull your hair out if you can't back track and undo what you did while looking for that perfect setting. Im looking to purchase more of these for each mic I use on stage. I.E.
