Summary: I'm using this mic for video interviews. I like the small size of the mic element, the variety of accessories included with the kit, and the sound quality. Compared to a Sony ECM-77, the AT899 reproduces male and female voices with a smoother, warmer character and a bit less sibilance. The only down side is that all the mounting accessories are designed to grip the mic wire near the element, and I have some concern about the wear and tear this will cause over time.
Summary: I usually use a boom with an AKG-1000 to do field recordings with video. But I needed to hide a mic on an interviewee last month and bought this one. Works great! It has a very clean sound, and the chord underneath the shirt didn't rustle easily. My one complaint is the tiny holders provided: all were somewhat big and showed up in the shot more than I would have liked. Otherwise, great tiny mic!
Summary: This is a great LAV Mic. I've always liked AT over Sony and Seinheiser since their equipment tends to be more durable and better sounding. I'm currently using this LAV for interviews as well as for a indie feature. This mic is amazing and was able to pick up the actor very well. I'll be buying another one of these very soon.
Summary: I am working on a documentary right now. Was in Iceland for a month and now in Denmark. I have to say the mic held up really well for extreme weather conditions. If you are shooting when it is really windy it picks it up. But I guess any Mic will do that.
Summary: We had been using wired, dynamic lavs, but the signal output was too low in many cases. We needed a mic that would have a strong signal compared to the noise floor, and be able to peg the VU meters on our field mixers if necessary. The AT899 was perfect for this. Small size is important for our interviewees, and this mic deliveres a great output level with low noise from a very small package.
Summary: It does a great job of cutting out the noise. Gets a little distort with deep voices, but only a little. I wish that I would have known that it came with a full set of clips and wind covers. I bought an extra clip and windcover and didn't need either.
