Good Sound Quality

Gillmantech, B&H Photo
18 March 2014
 • Excerpt: Works very well and has good quality sound. Was surprised at how small it was, but that's not a bad thing. As a side note it is omni-directional so in a room with any echo you will pick some of that up.
 • Pros: Clear Sound, Compact, Easy To Use, Lightweight, Versatile

Perfect Sound!

Jesse, B&H Photo
10 March 2014
 • Excerpt: This mic came as a recommendation from a B&H employee via IM Chat. His advice was spot on! I needed a low profile mic with great sound for DSLR filming and the AT899 worked perfectly! I have not one complaint about it.

Best bang for your buck!

Black River Creative, B&H Photo
11 February 2014
 • Excerpt: In shooting footage for a documentary, we bought this mic for traveling to 9 locations over a number of days. The sound was clean and crisp, despite background noise and street noise. We liked the mic so much, we came back and bought two more. It is the best sounding mic in the under $ category. I heartily recommend it be in your kit!
 • Pros: Clear Sound, Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Has A Protective Case

great build and features, ok sound

 • Excerpt: I actually like the fact that it has a really long cord. I like to wire my subjects but then have the recorder next to me at the camera, which sometimes can be quite far away. I don't find the battery/XLR part to be inconvenient at all, in fact I very much appreciate the option to run the battery if phantom is not possible. The accessory kit of attachments is possibly worth the price alone, and I like how small the mic itself is.

Awesome Lav

Raoul Duke, B&H Photo
23 December 2013
 • Excerpt: I use this for my primary voice track on a Zoom H6. So much better quality than using audio from my cameras. It stays with me, so the voice track is always consistent. The sound quality is superb, and for something so small, it seems really durable. The only downside is that there is no clip for the power supply, so if you're using an XLR cable, you've got to find some way to carry this thing without damaging the cables.

Great for interviews

2 December 2013
 • Excerpt: I use this lavalier for interviews in place of the rode on a boom that I used to use for this kind of stuff. Great clean sound and easy enough to conceal. I won't go back.

Work horse

 • Excerpt: I'm using it as we speak here at the American Heart Association annual meeting, for CardioSource WorldNews. Doing video interviews with some of the worlds leading Cardiologists, so you know I have to be ready to go, and in perfect working order at all times. That's what this mic has delivered since we got it. Great gain for a tiny mic!

Simplicity and functionality

Scott, B&H Photo
19 November 2013
 • Excerpt: This is a fantastic microphone for the money. I have wireless lavs, shotguns and other mics, but sometimes a simple wired lav is perfect because I do a lot of talking head corporate interviews. No need to over think it, it's just a wire, a microphone and a camera. Boom - done.

As for performance, this has a great sound, low noise, and is pretty small & inconspicuous. The wire is plenty long and is easy to take with you in the included carrying case.

OK but not for professional use

Cameraman, B&H Photo
15 November 2013
 • Excerpt: I purchased this thinking I could get by using it as a back up to my Sony wireless mic but that was a mistake. The sound might be passable for some users I'm sure, but if you are at all serious about quality interviews and warm full sound for your clients then definitely do not use this mic. You are much better off to spend an additional $100 and get something like the Sony ECM-55 or ECM-77.
 • Pros: Compact, Easy To Use, Lightweight
 • Cons: Poor Sound Quality

Disappointing Performance

Kerry, B&H Photo
5 October 2013
 • Excerpt: I intended to use this microphone in broadcast quality productions through a local television station that I freelance for and for my own projects on the side. I usually use Sennheiser G3's, but I wanted to cut back on battery usage, so I ordered a corded lav.

The sound is clean, the accessories are nice, and I like that the mic disconnects from power module.
 • Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Use
 • Cons: Limited Functions, Poor Sound Quality
