Great shotgun mic for audio reporting

  • Excerpt: I really like the sound quality of this microphone -- it works well with my Tascam 100 MKii, and the length of this shotgun is perfect. I can fit all my gear perfectly into a small backpack. The sound is bright and clear, and is my go-to for interviews and even voice-tracking.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Great Sound Quality, Lightweight

Excellent Mic: Crisp Audio

  • Excerpt: I used this mic at a church as I was filming a young female pastor. I simultaneously used a shure lapel mic. There was no comparison in that my AT897 was so clear and clean even when the speaker moved away from the mic. Editing the video was the easiest project ever.
  • Pros: Easy To Use, Great Sound Quality, Lightweight
  • Cons: A Bit Costly

Great for video work, on-camera or boom.

  • Excerpt: After using an AT-875R for a few weeks and finding it very noisy and tinny, I switched to the AT897. What a difference! Good, balanced response, a comfortable length, and excellent directionality make this mic a joy to use, and from the first shoot our sound was improved tremendously. I use the mic mostly on a boom, but it produces fine sound when used on-camera as well.
  • Pros: Balanced Response, Can Be Battery Powered, Great Directionality, Great Sound Quality, Lightweight

Excellent Shotgun

  • Excerpt: I'm a prosumer wedding videographer. This mic gives better sound than probably any on-board camera microphone. You'll pick up a little more bass at times. This microphone is not "sick" (in a good way), but it is solid and does what I need it to do. If you're needing something fancy, then add another zero to your budget.

  • Excerpt: Purchased for recording on a documentary. Worked well. It is very directional. I almost wish it has a bit wider recording area, but it was great for getting the dialogue and not environmental noise. Exactly whatr you want a shotgun to do.

I love this mic

  • Excerpt: I have many mics, including the industry standard Sennheiser 416. I keep this mounted to my camera at all times. The bass response for acoustic guitar and voice is impressive. The first time I heard it I was surprised at how warm and natural it sounds. My only wish is that it were a little shorter.
  • Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Great Sound Quality, Lightweight, Long Lasting

Awesome Shotgun Mic!!!

  • Excerpt: I'm a videographer for a PR firm in Atlanta, and we produce a lot of corporate videos and interviews. This mic has been a goliath step forward from the wired lavs and wireless lavs we used to employ during our video sessions. The wired mics produced a very mute and flat tone, and the wireless lavs (which were top of the line Sennheiser sets) produced God-awful hiss and feedback from time to time.
  • Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Great Sound Quality, Lightweight, Long Lasting
