Summary: This is one excellent quality shotgun microphone with low handling noise very directional . It has a built-in AA battery compartment for those without phantom power (that lasts 1000+ hours) and also has an 80Hz low cut switch that's impossible to flip accidentally. Comes with battery, windscreen foam and a holder.
Summary: I have several Audio-Technica mics they all serve a purpose, are inexpensive (not cheaply made) & work very well. I decided to get an XLR mic for video recordings with my GL2. I attached the AT897 to a XLR adapter with pre amp...WOW what a difference!! The AT897 has a sharp, rich dynamic audio that has improved my video 1000%. I will never use the on camera mic again. The AT897 kit is well worth the inexpensive investment!!!
Summary: I use this microphone mainly for recording video projects. I use a 15" macbook pro (the one before the unibody one), and it seems like the recorded volume is pretty quiet most of the time. However, after recording, I can turn the volume up, and the quality still sounds great. I'm running the microphone off of its included AA battery, but I've heard that the quality is even better when run off Phantom power.
Pros: Durable, Great Sound Quality, Lightweight, Long Lasting
Summary: I own a small video production company, and the 897 is versatile enough to handle almost everything we do: Indoor interviews, outdoor interviews, action shots, and ambient noise. It's great at cutting down unwanted noise. It's like an audio swiss army knife.
Pros: Durable, Good Value, High Quality, Versatile
Summary: I have four of these mikes. They are fabulous as an on camera mike backing up a mike on an interviewee. In a sit down interview we always use it as an overhead boom on a separate channel from the subjects lavaliere. Great nat sound pickup. We use it for everything except the handheld and lavaliere use.
Summary: While there are many better "shotgun" mikes this is excellent for the price(others cost as much as ten times the price!). For "fishpole" mounting w/shock-mount, or handheld, this is a great choice for use with a consumer video camera. Or with audio recorder for question-pickup at News Conferences. Remember: it as important to position to reject unwanted sound as it is to aim for the desired audio!
Pros: Durable, Effective, Lightweight, Long Lasting
