Excerpt: i am a legal video specialist and need a rugged wired mic that rejects background noise and delivers clear crisp speech. I have used the AT831b for nearly 20 years, and they get dropped, abused, yanked and spit on and give many years of good service. Once in a while I have to replace one, but I would never consider anything else for my work. I capture testimony that can never be re-done if anything goes wrong, and no excuses will be accepted.
Summary: Pretty pleased with this mic, although I generally prefer omni lapel mics. It has a nice crisp response, on a range of voices. Something I didn't know, but can affirm now: apparently most condenser mics with both battery and phantom power perform better with phantom. I tried this mic first using battery power, and was quite disappointed. But using phantom, it's sounded pretty good. Completely subjective, but there you go.
Excerpt: the sound of this microphone is warm and it has a good presence in the low medium, It's a complementary solution to other more aggressive products of the market. It can be used in noisy conditions.
