Great mic but not the best I've used.

songman1954, Ebay

  • Summary: The gain before feedback is a little over rated but all in all a very nice microphone. I have an Audix OM6 that is every bit as good as this microphone at less than 1/2 the price. If you're on a loud stage the Audix OM6 is more what you need no matter if your voice is soft or loud. The AE5400 is great for less loud environments in my opinion. Depends on your budget I suppose.

Audio-Technica AE5400 the BEST

vgniteev2011, Ebay
8 December 2012
  • Summary: I love this mic! This is the best of the microphone that I had! Compared with the Neumann KMS-104 plus, KMS-105, AUDIX OM-5, OM-7, Shure Beta SM-87A! Very versatile microphone that will suit everyone and probably for any style of music! I will surely buy this microphone in the future and in this shop! Buy, highly recommend!

"Perform a in system tune"

Rick, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: Love how they manage to maintain a smooth frequency response when held close up or away from vocal range. I own three and plans are to purchase seven more. Please make sure you tune them well with your monitors and feed back will be cut to very little or none at all when they are turned toward the monitors.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Versatile

Excellent Buy it Today!

  • Summary: This is the real thing; a true studio recording mic built into a hand-held format. It cuts through the mix and is everything the manufacturer described. I'm a classically trained tenor with a 3 octave range. I saw Andrea Bocelli using this mic on his "Under the Desert Sky" DVD. I think there's a good reason he chose to use it. I own this mic and the Neumann kms 105. I like both equally, this mic is a little brighter in sound and hotter than the Neumann.

place floor monitors and mics carefully

Ty Ford, B&H Photo
30 March 2010
  • Excerpt: In response to the previous review. The mic has a small back lobe. If the mic is on the stand or held in such a way that the back of the mic points at the monitors that's a great way to get feedback. Keeping the mic parallel to the floor and not pointed at the monitors works wonders. The EQ on this mic lets you roll off the low end if you have users who like to eat the mic. Great capsule. Nicely engineered.

Great Mic

AA the Voice, B&H Photo
13 September 2009
  • Excerpt: Great Mic. I've owned it for over a year. One really has to watch for live stage where feedback can be a problem. The mic is really great and does do what it says. Maybe someone has an answer on how to isolate it more from monitors.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Compact, Easy To Use, Lightweight
  • Cons: Watch for feedback

AE5400 great clarity!!

raywroentz, Ebay
3 May 2009
  • Summary: This is the most responsive mic I've ever used. Audio Technica's website's description of the microphone is dead-on. There is very little "enhancement" or "coloration" from the mic, so it gives a much truer sound than any Beta, Shure 87's and many boutique mic's. If you have a smooth voice similar to Roy Orbison, or Chris Isaak this mic is perfect for you.
