Summary: Did my research and finally ordered this. It fit all my criteria, and my choice was thoroughly validated when a friend (a true expert) visited and commented, "This is the same receiver I've got!
Summary: Replaced 30 year old Carver with this unit and am totally satisfied with product. The variable loudness control and .015 THD make this an assume receiver. Will support AV but was not looking for an AV unit. Would have been nice to have Airplay but the sound from this receiver is so much better than all the AV units I tried - and after all, sound is what a receiver is all about. Purchased several other AV receivers but returned them all because of the sound quality.
Summary: If you're looking for a true hi-fi receiver, this is it. Ample power to 100w per channel. Features include: tape, cd, and 3 aux. inputs, phono input with a built-in pre-amplifier, Pre-out/Main-in (so that a signal processor/equalizer can be used), and a variable loudness control. Sirius ready. A great machine that is well worth the money.
Summary: Great powerful receiver with virtually no distortion. I bought this for music listening (Vinyl and CD's) and to power my Monitor Audio floorstanding tower speakers. I was happy with the Yamaha, but thought at its price point maybe I was missing something; so I decided to demo both the Marantz PM 8004 and The NAD 356 BEE. The Marantz had a very warm sound which many like and was quite attractive. The build quality was impressive but the sound to me wasn't.
Excerpt: Before purchasing the Yamaha, I had narrowed my search down to Yamaha, Harmon-Kardon, and Marantz. For my own personal preferences, I made the right choice. I just wanted a solid stereo receiver that would enable me to listen to music played through the entire spectrum of my older audio components, and without all of the extra inputs for video, etc..

This Yamaha receiver had the best variety of analog connections that would allow me to attach all of my older stereo components.
