Summary: Being a child of the 70's and used to that warm analogue sound, it was a tough decision on what receiver to buy to replace my 30+ year old stereo amp. There was Marantz, Onynko, Denon, etc. Being I spin a lot of vinyl I liked the idea of a phono input, and a THD of almost 0%. The retro looks of the Yamaha and the simplicity of it were the deciding factors.
Pros: Accurate Controls, Easy To Set Up, Good Power Output, Good Remote Control, Great Sound Quality
Summary: I purchased the Yamaha R-S700 for music listening. I listen to Classical, Jazz, Rock. Instrumental music sounds great on this receiver, which is what I believe it's designed for. I would recommend this recevier to anyone who has an ear for real music ie: musicians, music enthusiasts. The PURE DIRECT feature is really nice for Chamber Music or solo instrumental recordings. The LOUDNESS adjustment really works well for large ensembles at low volume.
Pros: Good Power Output, Great Sound Quality, No Hissing At Loud Volume
