when the sound is the most important factor....That's the one at the price range!
3 October 2011
Summary: Sound is top here. I have heard and tested different amplifiers in the price range and this one has an edge in clarity that I've missed with other brands. Yes, the plastic Knobs are somehow annoying. Agree with the other colleague here who asked why the Yamaha engineers would have taken such a strange design decision for such an Amplifier.
Nice 1970s Retro Looking Amp with 21st Century Sound
27 May 2011
Summary: The look of this amp is simple and straight forward. Nothing fancy here. Yeah, the plastic vertical knobs are a turn-off and the quality of the controls could be better at this premium price. What were Yamaha engineers thinking when they shaved a minuscule $5 off their production costs on a primo "audiophile" amp by employing plastic knobs? Jeeze! Inside is a different story.
Summary: Bought this from Best Buy for 270 as an open box item for my masterbed room system. Best Buy didn't have the remote so had to go to Yamaha and bought a replacement for another $65. But for $335, I feel like this is a great buy. Using it with Mirage OS³-FS speakers. This amp sounds real good. I'd describe the sound as smooth without any glare or etched highs. The bass is solid but not the last word in punch.
Summary: I owned an integrated amp for 23 years, and was very happy with the natural sound. I started having problems with the right channel and figured after 23 years, it was time to spring for a new one. I tried the NAD C355BEE, but the treble side was a bit dark to my ear. I then ordered the Yamaha and I'm very happy with it. The sound is very defined and natural. I was told by a friend that the Yamaha would be the way to go.
Summary: I bought it last month in Singapore at SGD900.00 and after 50hrs break-in period, I have made comparison to my old Marantz PM7000, this Yamaha A-S700 is a clear winner for VERY smooth, open, transparent and natural sound. I have paired it with B&W DM601 S3 and Marantz CD6002, they were perfectly match system.
