Summary: This is my first headphone amp, so I can not compare it with any other piece. But man, what a sound. Extremely clear mids and highs, although not heavy in bass. I am still getting used to it and in the breakin period. Nice looking unit and quite heavy for it's size.
Summary: I recently took delivery of the TEAC HA-501. After giving it a good workout, I am happy to share my impressions about it.
This is one impressive amplifier. It has clean, refined power. It is very musical with a hint of warmness and smoothness, while retaining a high level of detail. It is very transparent and essentially disappears from the chain. Highly recommended.
Pros: Transparent and controlled; disappears from the chain
Summary: Since other reviewers have gone into the fine, technical details, I won't bore you with more. Simply put, I am a music lover, but my neighbors don't seem to appreciate my music, thus, the search for high quality headphones. When I finally found a set that worked great with wonderful sound quality, and then I learned about headphone amps. Of course, now I had to find one. The hardest part for me was trying to figure out what I really needed.
Summary: The TEAC HA-501 provides a great `system synergy' for me. Why? The typical single element headphone has difficulty remaining linear throughout the full frequency spectrum, and along with other headphone sensitivities and various impedance's, makes the ideal mating of different headphones with a single amp difficult. Many people have a different amp for each headphone. The TEAC HA-501 amp with selectable damping solves this need!
Summary: Older music lovers and technophiles remember the name TEAC with respect and a great deal of fondness. Growing up amongst those for whom music was a way of life (way back when) meant that the brown and tan monolith that was the reel-to-reel tape recorder was nearly ubiquitous. If you valued music, you needed the best way to listen to it in the most realistic sound possible.
Summary: I realize I could write a review about the nitty gritty technical specs associated with this amplifier... Frankly, though, I don't feel qualified to do that. Instead, when it comes to music, I am more focused on the artistic expression and the emotions that come from experiencing music in its purest form. Back when the Kindle first arrived on the e-reader scene, Jeff Bezos discussed the concept of a "flow state" when designing the original Kindle.
Summary: Sorry for the length of this review but I want to include a bit of "back story" for the uninitiated. Please skip down a few paragraphs to get to the meat of the matter! Cheers! **** edit 6/4/13 Pairing this amp with HiFiMan's HE-500's is a match made in heaven! I have the damping set to the notch between "High" and 'Medium" and they just SING!! **** edit 5/11/14 I recently purchased the Beyer T-90's and the TEAC let's it sound it's best which is GREAT by the way.
