I use this receiver with a DVD-player (more used as a CD-player), a BD-player, the TV output and a turntable. It does a good job with all them. I found it could have a little more bass at the beginning, but, with time, I figured out that my old mini-system had it too much. The phono input is a great feature, specially now that I'm listening to vinyl records again. I recomend it. Read more
Casual user, but I know good sound and electronics. Even with plenty of features, this stereo receiver is priced just right for my casual needs: paired with my Bose bookshelf speakers, it plays music clearly and precisely, and it gives TV and movies fantastic, full sound without expensive surround sound. Good tuner picks up tons of stations. Button controls feel solid. Volume, bass, and treble controls are smooth. Display Dimmer has three light levels. Read more
Just because the tx8555 doesn't have surround is no reason not to include balancing features offered in other surround models. I believe you call it "Odysey System". It would be nice if my tx8555 had those features as well!! Read more
You won't find many like this - it does what a STEREO receiver should do and it does it with perfection. It sounds fantastic where I am using it - we use it for entertainment in a commercial kitchen (all that fancy multi-channel capability doesn't mean a thing when you can't meticulously place speakers and tune the setup. We run our Dahlquist QX-5A mains with a Klipsch RW-8 sub and we have awesome sound to make the day pass fast! Read more
The sound was a bit compressed/muffled sounding when I first hooked it up, after running it for a few hours though it "loosened up" and now sounds wonderful. So don't worry if the first time you listen, the sound ain't so great. Read more
I bought this for outdoor speakers and to play our iPhones and XM radio. It is one of the least expensive and best quality receivers I have purchased. This is my first Onkyo receiver and I am very pleased with its performance and ease of setup. Read more

I am using the TX-8555 with 2 pairs of JBL L830's and a Velodyne DLS 3750R sub. At a volume level of 40, the output is rather low and I have to go anywhere between 60 and 65 to get fairly loud. Is the 1) normal ? and 2)recommended ? I am under the impression that I am pushing the receiver too hard at those levels. Thanks Jim
