Excerpt: In less than two years this unit was in shop three times. This last shop visit lasted from early July to today - Aug 19. Kurt note that I should "try to connect the Ethernet cable directly from the MODEM to the RECEIVER." The unit has always been directly hard wired.
Cons: 3 X To Shop In Less 2 Yrs, Poor Interface, Poor Sound Quality
Summary: I purchased this receiver to be paired with a set of JBL ES80 floor standing speakers for a setup to listen to music/tv/movies in my bedroom. When I set everything up I was fairly disappointed with the sound quality and assumed it was because I got fairly inexpensive speakers.
Summary: I have owned this unit for 2-1/2 years. Overall, I am not unhappy with the functionality of the product. Streams music over my network and the internet successfully, plays FM and AM when I want it, sound quality is decent. A little unstable about staying connected to my network.
Summary: I bought this item (Onkyo TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver) based on a mostly positive experience with an Onkyo 5-CD player and on Onkyo's generally positive reputation for making middle-quality stereo components, between cheap consumer disposables and high-level stereophile-quality components...
Summary: The receiver itself is above average for its price range. However the internet connectivity is very poor. It either will not connect at all, or after connecting will disconnect without any discernible reason.
Summary: Sound has treble bias, brilliance over complexity & depth. "Back" layers of sound sometimes muffled & unclear (eg, strings in loud brass passage). Sounds like high overtones are favored over lower overtones & fundamental pitch. Has more features than my old Fisher, but basic sound not as good.
Pros: Remote control an advantage, sound better when music simple (eg, solo piano, small ensemble).
Cons: Sound quality (see above). Like many Microsoft "upgrades," has more features, but performance of basic features not as good.
Summary: I bought this receiver for the 4ohm capability, the fm radio, and the sound of the amp. It is a very fine sounding amp with fm and the analog inputs. The treble is a little bright with my speakers but I can adjust it,,what a concept! The sound of the cd input is great with my dac and computer.
Summary: I bought this unit to play music over 4 ceiling speakers in a large living area. Sound is excellent. The wireless control of the unit is consistently terrible. Most times I need to re-establish a connection with the router.
Summary: I purchased this receiver because of the network capabilities (mostly for Pandora) and the fact that I can control it with an iPhone App. I use this to power a pair of speakers on my roof terrace, the recvr is 2 floors down in my living room so the App working correctly is a must..
Summary: Had Roku sound bridge that died after 5 years of service. I loved my Roku but they quit making them. Looked for a replacement and it appeared the best way to go was with an Internet compatable receiver. Purchased the onkyo with the USB wifi attachment.
