Functionality and set-up

  • Excerpt: This review is a little different because I bought this unit and had it delivered to my Florida address but my components are in Canada. I bought it here because the price is about $ cheaper than in Canada...even after the exchange!Anyway...I could only test it with a small ipod docking station for speakers and headphones. What I really wanted to test was the connectivity to the Internet. The set-up was beyond easy...plug in the cat5 cable and away you go...

  • Excerpt: The receiver performs to my expectations, but using pandora, serius , or internet programming without an Android or iThing app is not really viable due to the receivers limited display. Overall very happy.

I am very glad I bought it

  • Summary: All you have to do is pick it up and examine it and you will tell just by the weight and heft of it and the attention to detail and smoothness of the controls that this is very well made quality piece of equipment. I have four identical "bookshelf" speakers. Pairs A and B. I wanted a stereo receiver that can play A or B, as well as A and B pairs together. This was once very common. Now however, the Onkyo was about the only capable choice I could find available.

Better Than Expected

  • Excerpt: This unit is excellent and has more features than I realized when I bought it. Setup was simple and it is mostly intuitive to use. The menu system requires some getting use to and a call to tech support was useful to decode the menu system. Tech support is fast and accurate. This is the first Onkyo I have owned and I would not hesitate to buy another one. The only thing left for me to learn about is its durability, which will take some time.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Good Remote

Great Receiver!!

  • Excerpt: I use this to run my man cave stereo system, as well as for Directv sound through my computer; and Sirius Radio. I have old Bose 501 floor speakers, and the sound is awesome!!The only drawback is that new USB turntables do not work in the phono jacks...has to be hooked through an unused other one; so the phono screen display is useless.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Good Remote, Interfaces Well With TV, Intuitive Controls

nice solid receiver

  • Excerpt: Replaced my old NAD receiver with this one. For a basic two channel setup for listening to classical music it works very well. There are plenty of hookups, including one for a phono/turntable, which is rare nowadays. Everything sounds clean and clear on my KEF speakers, plenty of power. FM isn't bad even with included wire hookup. I also like that it has buttons and knobs on the front so that you do not have to use the remote for everything.

Great Value

  • Excerpt: I wanted something low cost and with full internet/AirPlay functionality for my office music system. This fits the bill. It really has an incredible number of features for about $, like a phono preamp and a pre amp out and pre amp in. This may be useful in the future, because as others have said, this is not a high powered receiver. I'm driving two Energy RC-10's bookshelfs and its just fine.
  • Pros: Great Vaule
  • Cons: Iphone Control App, Poor Iphone App
