Excerpt: second one I've purchased as a gift for someone else. both times I tested these to make sure there would be no ugly surprises at giving time.I'm impressed with clean sound , ample base and internet capability of these. may have to get one for myself. too bad they can't build in the wifi capability. if you use the usb slot for the onkyo wifi adapter , you give up usb memory capability for that duration.
Excerpt: I bought this Onkyo TX-8050 based on reviews on here and other sites. B&H had the best deal. Well 1.5 years of using this for general music use I'd give it 4 stars. I have some high end speakers that sound great on my other amps/receivers but not much mid range on this Onkyo. Still 4 stars. Where I have issues is the internet streaming of Pandora. I give it 2 stars here. Some of the issues may well be Pandora but the main one is not. It will not let me skip a song.
Pros: Clear Sound, Energy Efficient, Interfaces Well With TV
Cons: Confusing Remote, Difficult To Set Up, Internet Streaming Issues, No Mid range
Excerpt: Needed to replace an aging Yamaha receiver. Very happy with this "stereo" (as opposed to multi-channel units). Using the usb port most often. Have not tried to connect to the home network yet so no opinion on that. Mostly, it sounds great on my Orb speaker system. More than enough power to shake the room but cleanly.
Excerpt: Use to play cable TV music channels on deck. Great for that. Has more inputs than I'll ever use.Could have better FM antenna - only get 2-3 FM stations, depending upon weather, from the little single-wire antenna included. Will need to install a different one in the future.
Excerpt: For the price, it's hard to top the TX-8050 for the features it delivers. While it's only a 2-channel receiver, I wouldn't recommend it for a home theatre. That being said, it does support network connectivity (streaming audio and DLNA) and second listening zone that can be driven by a source other than the primary zone. While I don't use the iPod dock (sold separately), I do use the iPhone remote app to control just about every feature on the unit.
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Thundering Bass
