Summary: I did quite a bit of research before buying an amp and DAC. I ended up going with this amp and the associated Audio Engine DAC. I'm very happy with them both, they work well together. The size of this is good, and it powers the Audio Engine P4 speaks easily. Build quality is top notch. I considered going with a smaller, cheaper, chinese amp, but this gives me comfort that it will be plugging away years from now. Not so sure about the less expensive options.
Summary: I bought the Audioengine N22 Black Premium Desktop Audio Amplifier to work in conjunction with: Audioengine P4 Premium Passive Bookshelf Speaker Pair and Audioengine S8 Premium Powered Subwoofer. The combination provides outstanding sound for music played on my computer and audiophile turntable. I have a Bose home theater and now want to replace it with Audioengine speakers because it sounds flat and uninspiring compared to Audioengine products.
Summary: My wife wanted an iPod/iPhone speaker system. I did a ton of research and some auditioning. The ones that sounded great were over $500 which I did not want to spend. I had an old Boston Acoustic Micro System 9000 laying around that's worth practically nothing and decided to find an mini amplifier to drive it because I was sure that it'd sound alot better than any ipod speaker system that I could find for $200. And then I found this gem, the N22.
Summary: I'm very impressed with little amplifier. The sound is very transparent and warm. I use with it a BlackBerry Audio USB cable, a Musical Fidelity V-DAC, V-PSU and drive a pair of Audioengine Passive 4s. Using Apple Lossless as a source it a great little sound system.
Summary: Of the many small amps available, I had narrowed my selection down to 3, based on both the reputed sound quality and the presence of an auto-on function. I wanted an amp to drive some small bookshelf external speakers for my flatscreen TV without having to turn it on and off each time, simply for the device to sense an incoming signal and turn itself on, then go into a power-down mode when I turned the TV off.
Summary: I chose Audioengine's N22 because I purchased the Audioengine D1 DAC. The two work together seamlessly with a pair of Energy satellite speakers, placed in between is my ipad and keyboard at the foot of the bed. At night the sound extends beyond the speakers, as if the senses waft effortlessly through thin air picking up delicate nuances of a variety of musical arrangements even at low volume.
Summary: I bought this item a couple of weeks ago. I was not sure how it would sound, but was hopeful, given all the great reviews here, and out on the web. I was not disappointed. Quite the opposite. This little gem is unbelievable. 22 real watts/channel driven cleanly across the band. I auditioned them with my Audio Technica ATH-M50S phones at my office - source was an iPhone 4s. I listened to a little Pink Floyd downloaded from iTunes at the max quality setting (not lossless).
Summary: the N22 is very good looking with my KEF mini speakers for my desk i can use it with everything at my desk mp3,ipod,iphone,pc,notebook... very easy to hookup and work with most of the speakers.
Pros: Accurate Controls, Easy To Set Up, Energy Efficient, Good Power Output, Great Sound Quality
Summary: This little amp works perfectly, sounds great and looks cute. The components come inside velvet bags, which is a nice touch. Setup is simplicity itself and, with only a volume knob to consider, there are no complicated (and often unnecessary) switches, knobs or dials to learn how to use. This amplifier does what it says it does, and it does it beautifully.
Summary: The dealer shipped the Audioengine N22 amp promptly. It arrived well packed. And it was easy to set up. I bought the N22 to drive a pair of Monitor Audio mini monitors (Radius 90's) directly from my iMac. Given the low power of the amp and the fact that my speakers aren't very efficient (87 db), I wasn't expecting much. But I was pleasantly surprised. The amp drives the speakers in a small den to more than adequate sp levels, and the sound is warm and sweet.
