A nice scope, but with problems.

  • Excerpt: This is a fine scope in many respects with a lot of great features. Having said that, I just returned the one I'd just purchased and tested in the field. As some others have said, this model is back end heavy. Whenever I found a target (I'm a birder) and tried to steady the scope, the scope invariably drooped and wouldn't stay put. I would then have to make adjustments to get the target again in the middle of the FOV.
  • Pros: Many Nice Features, Solid build
  • Cons: Focus Knobs Positioning, Image Degrades After 28x, Lacks Balance Droops

spotting scope

  • Excerpt: I use this scope to view the sky, along with birds and other wildlife. 'm hoping to attach my DSLR to it to shoot some closeups of birds and other animals. The magnification is better than I expected, and the tripod that came with it works well.
  • Pros: Bright Eyepiece, Sensitivity Controls, Solidly Built, Strong Magnification

Celestron Regal M2 16-48x65 ED

Piers A., Eagle Optics

  • Summary: I am very pleased with this. The image is as expected from Celestron, at all magnifications. The dual focus controls work perfectly and have a great feel. The ring allowing you to rotate the body of the scope is a great feature, for viewers of different heights to use the scop, after you have focused on an object. I'm completely satisfied with this purchase.

Excellent optics and great value

Mulley, opticsplanet.com

  • Summary: I had a chance to critically check two of these against a Nikon ED 50mm and Celestron M2 80mm. Optics of 65mm are nearly equal to Nikon and better than M2 80mm. Focus is precise, snaps into focus and mount is solid enough to resists shake on good tripod. I found I could read 1" print on a sign at 150 yards in dim light. Could not notice any brighter image on 80 mm, and softer focus and less rigid mount on that scope makes the 65mm my choice.
  • Pros: Sharp, clear optics, precise focus, solid mount, moderate weight.
  • Cons: Weight balances towards eyepiece, eyepiece cover hard to thread

Good value and quality for the money

  • Excerpt: I have only been able to use this scope once but took it out birdwatching to a local wildlife preserve. We were able to spot Bald Eagles that were across a pond and once we got the scope trained on them, the viewing was spectacular. We could not make out details with our 8 x 32 or 8 x 42 binoculars but got very crisp images with the scope and could see all details of the birds.
  • Pros: Eyepiece Rotation, Low Chromatic Aberration, Strong Housing
  • Cons: A Little Bit Heavy

Enjoying my new scope!

Daniel W., Eagle Optics

  • Summary: I've never even looked through another spotting scope, so I can't make any direct comparisons. However, the image is bright and clear, especially from 16-25X. I have good binoculars (Viper HD 8X32), and the image quality seems comparable to those. I've been doing some birding and very basic astronomy with the scope, and it works great for both.
