Great for the money

Gabbie, opticsplanet.com
31 March 2011
  • Summary: Used at the range several times and my zoom was easy to turn, side focus was working great, the small tripod got the job done at the range. I got to the range several times when temp was around 42 degrees and lens did not fog up when using. At 60x image became a little dark and the eye relief wasn't that great.
  • Pros: High magnification, tripod, variable zoom
  • Cons: Dark image at Highest Zoom, eye relief

Alpen 745

  • Summary: Nice unit, using for spotting scope on the shooting range. Doesn't give as much magnification at 100 and 150 yards as I had expected. But overall I still like the scope.
  • Pros: Easy to use, nice and compact, light weight
  • Cons: not as much magnification as expected

Adjustments gone bad

Mateo727, opticsplanet.com
24 September 2010
  • Summary: was a good spotting scope at the range when i bought it. bright at 20X but very dim at 60X with poor eye relief. used one season in the field with no problems, now as i get ready for this year the focus will not work. I turn it and it gets close to in focus but not good enough. I banged on the case to see if there were losed optics inside. sure enough, then it focused, until it got bumped again. probably not built for rough handling.
  • Pros: good optics, light weight.
  • Cons: zoom adj. too stiff, Focus adjustment failed

Great buy

  • Summary: Great scope at the price. In low light it is clear on the 20X setting. The eye relief is really good. The 60x requires a considerable amount of light or the image is dark but for mid day glassing it works well. Overall this is a great asset to any sportsman or outdoors person looking for a bargain. It is the first Alpen product I have bought and I am eager to try out their other products.
  • Pros: Clear, Simple, Rugged, Easy to use
  • Cons: Tripod is cheap
