Summary: If you Have the Zalman 5.1 surround sound headphones which i have for this sound card this is the Perfect Set up for you great for any laptop user that are into games, movies,or any thing to do with Multimedia
Summary: I'd recommend it to alnyone looking for same.
Pros: Needed 5.1 on my laptop; this fit the bill $55, USB support for Win7.
, Downloaded and installed beta Win7 drivers from Zalman no issues. Tried doing as previous poster suggested kept hanging my machine, opted for the beta choice.
Cons: Once you figure which cables to plug into the unit and configure your sound there is nothing to it, only a little confusion.
Summary: This is the probably the best among all the available USB sound cards. Plugged this into my Windows 7 laptop, it worked right away, but I didn't have 24 bit / 96 kHz playback so I tried installing drivers from CD but chose the XP drivers unknowingly.
Pros: - Individually controlled amplified analog outputs for fronts, rears, and center/sub.
, - Windows 7 drivers worked Plug n play.
, - Windows XP drivers (on provided CD) worked in Windows 7 and probably work in XP of course.
, - Windows Vista drivers (on provided CD) worked even better.
, - Coaxial...
Cons: - not much; maybe the large size compared to others but worth tradeoff.
, - slightly confusing install process. (Use Setup.exe in root folder on provided CD if using Windows XP. Use Setup.exe in VISTA subfolder if you are on Windows Vista or 7)
