This was a good solution for me instead of buying and installing a ...

Summary: Works as a described. Plugged into free USB port on a PC running Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 64-bit and it automatically installed the drivers, plugged in my computer speaker cable into the headphone icon jack on the StarTech.com USB Stereo Audio Adapter External Sound Card ICUSBAUDIOB, and had sound coming out of my computer speakers :).
Summary: It allowed me to have sound on a system where the internal sound card had failed. It works great if you're listening to something on your computer but if you're listening to something over the internet, it's not very good. I'm not sure if it's the loading of internet videos that causes the problem.
Summary: It worked as an input for my computer. (MacBook Pro), but the headphone plug does not seem to function, so I can't monitor my recordings other than by watching an led move up and down in Sound Recorder Mac.
Summary: If your looking for a good basic cheap sound card this is a great choice. Good quality sound and works with built in drivers on windows and linux flawlessly. I have 3 of these now and have yet to have any issue with them.
Summary: I ordered this because the headphone jack broke when I dropped my VAIO laptop. I haven't been able to use headphones for over a year. I got this for $14 with amazon prime free two day shipping. Just plugged it into my usb port and the driver installed itself. Took about 1 or 2 min to install. Didn't need to use the cd or download a driver from a website. After that it works perfect.
Summary: i'm not sure how long i've had this thing, but it has suffered a lot of abuse. and it still works without a hitch. i thought i'd lost it for good about 6 months ago after leaving it in the hub while i maneuvered the laptop around ...and bent the plug horribly... BUT it continues to function, and from the small amount of heat generated by the link, i imagine, it righted itself over time. it has occurred at least twice now. maybe 3 times.
