Summary: The SoundMax controller would not function in a Lenovo Tablet after 8 years. The SoundWave 7.1 is an excellent replacement, great sound, and has additional features beyond the stock original controller. It's basic operation is Plug n Play, loads a driver, and is ready to go.
Summary: Sorry, this device does NOT put out a 5.3 AC3 signal. I ran it with and without the driver and got the same results. No DD AC3 or DTS streams. It was plugged into one of the tosslink inputs of my venerable Lexicon MC-1.

Summary: For whatever reason, I could not get this device to interface correctly with my Dolby Digital receiver connected by Toslink. I wanted some way for the USB to deliver a 5.1 signal for decoding by my Denon receiver, but could not get the correct output.
Pros: I bought one of these over a decade ago. And I've been running it non-stop ever since. It's lasted me through my last 3 builds without any issues. All the while giving me FAR superior sound over the onboard options. In fact I've grown to love this card so much, I'm really going to miss it when it...
Cons: Modern motherboards and/or cpus don't support this fine little gem.

Summary: There are many other glowing reviews here, I would like to add here that i have had this item for about 18 months now and use it on an HTPC. I mostly wanted to comment on any reviews that say this does not produce a digital output.
