I own two of these

john t., Newegg
3 August 2012
  • Summary: I've recommended this card to many people and have not had any negative comments.
  • Pros: I'm surprised by the negative comments on this card. I'm using one in a win7 32bit system and the other in a win7 64bit. Both have worked flawlessly. I used one of these in an XP system prior to changing the os. There is a win7 issue that requires one to shut off variable cpu speeds as it can cau...
  • Cons: From the negative comments I would say that some setup knowledge is required. People also need to use it for the purpose for which it is designed. It is not a do everything for everyone product.

Still the best

Chris H., Newegg
1 August 2012
  • Summary: I have an excellent sounding setup using Foobar 2000 with the WASAPI plugin. With the output set to 32-bit in Foobar, the effects of the Foobar volume control are negligible, as it send a 32-bit stream to the M-Audio, which does it's own processing in 36-bits, before finally dithering down to the...
  • Pros: Excellent sound quality. Stable drivers. Low price. Proper 1/4" balanced TRS inputs and outputs.
  • Cons: Using WASAPI or ASIO for bit-perfect output disables the Windows volume control, but this is expected.

Latency higher than onboard audio

Drew E., Newegg
17 July 2012
  • Pros: I got it solely to reduce latency, so there were no pros for me other than the fact that it worked.
  • Cons: Roundtrip latency was about 11ms with this card, vs. about 8ms with my motherboard's integrated audio. I returned it.

Problems w/ Win 7

Nicholas H., Newegg
30 November 2011
  • Summary: Tired of Creative's bloatware, I bought this for the solution to digitizing my vinyl collection. It would have been a great solution too...if that was all I did with my machine. Having to fight compatibility issues, endure months with no driver fixes, humming introduced by their dongle (yes I tried...
  • Pros: -Sounds great when working with stereo sound. -Somewhat adaptable breakout, so long as you don't mind buying extra cables to connect your gear to it.
  • Cons: -You get one free support call. After that Avid wants you to pay per call. Wow. -Driver & configuration software currently doesn't work with Windows 7 unless you go to their forums and root around for the way to get their poor software to actually show up on the screen. -Had compatibility issues ...

Great for DAW

Curtis V., Newegg
17 September 2011
  • Summary: I am moving away from doing DAW work. If I did it all over again, I would seriously dedicate more research to a DAW card before buying.
  • Pros: - Card is built to handle the workload of a DAW - Can set very low latencies for heavy duty MIDI applications (such as using an E-Drum set to trigger samples) - Compatible with Windows Vista/7 (see cons)
  • Cons: - Had some instances where audio no stops working (not very frequently) - MFR never updates their drivers, and I have a hunch that there is room for improvement (in terms of stability) - Driver settings and overall feature interface could have been improved.

Nice card, horrible software.

Mark N., Newegg
23 February 2011
  • Pros: It's a nicely built card, the connections are tight and they offer a good variety of inputs and outputs.
  • Cons: "Make your own music right away" is what the software bundle says. Which is true so long as you pay up another $300 for the recording software. The "lite" version is actually just a demo, and doesn't allow for any recording. I bought this card wanting to transfer my vinyl collection to CD and now...

Card is good but the cables are not.

Anonymous, Newegg
30 January 2010
  • Pros: Good card, works fine itself. Using it with monitors ( Alesis MK2 ) and the sound is clean and smooth.
  • Cons: Only one. Cables that came with the card are not good. After a month I started having problems with connection. It' would be good to mention, that I wasn't touching the cables after installation ( connecting and disconnecting every day ), so everything stayed connected all the time. I have to buy...
