Nightmare

buhlzi, Ebay
21 April 2012
  • Summary: The card wasn't detected by Device Manager and BSOD'd the box when the driver was installed. McAfee FW blocks the Creative Lab download site. I had to send the card back to the seller.

Huge mistake

Phillip A., Newegg
1 March 2012
  • Summary: Easily the worst mistake I've ever made on Newegg. This piece of garbage isn't worth the headache for a few bucks saved, even when I got it on black friday on sale. I'm selling it off for a third of what I paid for it, and going for a card with proper driver support. I suggest you do the same.
  • Pros: When it worked, it had very good quality considering what I payed for it.
  • Cons: Support on Windows 7 is a joke. Customer service is absolutely abysmal. It took a week of messing with various mickey mouse fixes to get it to work intermittenly for three months before it crapped out again, BSOD'ing my computer and causing Win7 to go from 20 second boot on my SSD to 3 minute boo...

Discontinued for a reason

Mike H., Newegg
8 February 2012
  • Summary: By the time I was done farting around with this thing on board sound never sounded so good.
  • Pros: I guess it sounded good while it worked.
  • Cons: I don't bash much on newegg. But creative has just gone downhill with their drivers and support. --- This card gave me nothing but problems. Software is terrible. Freezes games up. I don't need a whole lot more to decide this thing is not worth the hassle. Go newegg for easy RMA. Love Newegg! Don...

James W., Newegg
19 December 2011
  • Summary: i'd rather try a xonar if i were you.
  • Pros: its been working for a long time... but so has my onboard.
  • Cons: the main functions dont work on this card. its advertised as Windows 7 compatible. ppl saying "eax 5.0 is awesome" must still be using xp. because XFI MODE/eax5.0 will BSOD every time with vista or W7 = FACT. unless you turn it down to settings that an onboard soundcard can do with DDL licensed. ...

Great when it WorkS!!

ariel d., Newegg
31 October 2011
  • Summary: I have tried every PCIe x1 slot on my motherboard and a friends motherboard and same results, i even have a friend online who has the same card and same problem. Heard this is caused by computer latency (DPC Latency) and when ever there my be a spike the Creative drivers cant adjust to the spike...
  • Pros: -Creative Console -X-Fi Crystalizer -X-Fi CMSS - 3D Dolby/DTS Encoder awesome card when its wants to work......
  • Cons: -Every 2-4 hours sound crashes and i get full static and popping and the only way to fix it is a restart. -Tried every driver and same result and I'm sick of restarting 4-6 times a day. -Creative doesn't have a Contact number only E-mail support witch in my option is slow and its just not that sa...

Terribad

Mike H., Newegg
21 October 2011
  • Summary: Used to be religious about buying creative sound cards with builds. This will be my last try for a long time, already RMA'd.
  • Pros: Sounds good...
  • Cons: Aweful drivers, nothing but headaches. Just stay away from Creative sound cards until they get their #@$% together. Just not worth the hassle.

So bad that I removed it

Derek G., Newegg
5 April 2011
  • Summary: After spending hours and hours on the latest issue (not unusual), I just gave up. I removed the card from my system and plugged my speakers into my motherboard's onboard sound. And you know what? Everything works now, no drivers to install, no bloatware to turn down, no hours of fruitless googling.
  • Pros: Theoretically it will produce better sound than your onboard device.
  • Cons: With the latest drivers installed some programs had no sound, others were badly distorted. These were not obscure programs either, Pandora (via Chrome), games off of Steam, etc. Sometimes, for no apparent reason the sound for all programs would go crackley and restarting the computer was the only...

Crackles and Pops

Jabbar R., Newegg
24 March 2011
  • Pros: Good sound when it's not crackling and popping
  • Cons: The card is not properly shielded, thus resulting in lots of crackling and popping. http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/SOLUTION-X-Fi-crackling-sound-distortion-continuous-beeps-not/m-p/371327

Driver Issues

Brian K., Newegg
20 March 2011
  • Summary: If I could send this card back right now, and save 100 dollars I definitely would.
  • Pros: Boosts the volume of your music. Makes everything sound nice. Works as advertised, in that repsect.
  • Cons: Major driver issues which creative refuses to resolve. Call them up, send them e-mails, they will send you a list of fixes a mile long which require you to do outrageous things. Creative support is WORTHLESS. They will even admit they have problems with the drivers, but refuse to fix them. Heres ...
