so many issues, all the way around

joshua h., Newegg
18 January 2010
  • Summary: where new updates were posted. They stated that the new updates should have been posted already but were overlooked. The new updates fixed all issues but the EAX effects. However, most new games dont use it so I figured what the heck, Ill keep it to avoid S&H and restock fees.
  • Pros: The basics work. Improves gaming performance and sound quality. 3D audio works. Hardware installation was simple.
  • Cons: Software installation, not so simple. I use Win7 32-bit. Package only comes with XP and Vista software. Win7 baulked at the very idea of using the provided install software. Downloaded updates from Creative website (several times) and still could not get all the advertised features such as EAX, G...

Biggest let down EVER

Paul D., Newegg

  • Summary: so unhappy with one!!! Creative Makes great hardware, but their software engineers program like they go the office high as a kite! At least the card works well with Daniel K's X-FI Auzentec Forte 2.20.0000.0 driver.
  • Pros: Works AMAZINGLY Well under windows XP! Crystalizer, CMSS3d... all features were fantastic. Then Vista came...
  • Cons: I own a ASUS A8N-SLI motherboard and to this day my sound will pop and crack at random times! It took creative over 2 years to get the Crackling to the point where it onlyhappens every few hours or so!!! I am currently using one of Daniel K's new drivers and all is well my sound does not crackle ...

Be Wary

Nathaniel M., Newegg
7 December 2007
  • Summary: I came to this card with high hopes, but after months of working with it on and off, I'm thinking about eBaying mine. I've been running on the built-in sound in my ASUS M2R32 motherboard for months, and haven't minded one bit.
  • Pros: Lots of options and settings
  • Cons: Known bug with many ASUS motherboards -- sound either goes dead or turns into high-pitched whine. If it doesn't do that, volume is very quiet, and you have to crank everything to max to get faint audio. No reliable work-arounds at this time.

stay away from it

Josh B., Newegg
17 August 2007
  • Summary: Vista drivers and software is limited. Gamers don't even think about buying this one the gaming mode is useless in Vista. Creative drivers and support are lame at best.
  • Pros: for that price, NONE
  • Cons: I have Outlaw Audio separates ( for amp and pre-amp)and Axiom Audio speakers, so I have a relatively high end speaker system, and for the longest time I thought something is wrong with either speakers , my AMP or my Pre-AMP. There was always a metallic tone, and a static noise in the sound that w...
