Great sound; limited headset support

Creative

  • Summary: By Vance I purchased this ZxR to use with my Sennheiser PC G4ME ZERO headset. I had read other users complaining of sound degredation when using the ACM (Audio Control Module) to connect their devices to and that they recommended connecting directly to the sound card. So, I took the 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapters from the ACM connectors and applied them to my headset connectors and while the sound worked fine, the microphone did not work at all despite every possible attempt at...

User Review

PanzerIV, NCIX.com
14 January 2014
  • Summary: I already had one of the best soundcard, I had the (Auzentech X-Meridian 2G) with 100$ of custom opamps on it but it was the best PCI card, yet my new motherboard has only PCI-E slots so I was force to change my soundcard. Is there really a difference with what I had before, not really to be honnest so for now the enhancement is mostly software-side I'd say but at least I didn't lose any SQ and I've gained a very nice microphone, volume pod/hub and an amplified headphone...
  • Pros: - Even though the software isn't perfect it is still the very best and most complete among Auzentech/Asus/Creative., - The beamforming microphone is highly customizable in the software, it's stereo unlike all other cheap microphone which are omni-directionnal and mono. It's better than nothing even if it doesn't replace a 100$ XLR/USB professional microphone., - The volume pod is awesome, the dial is super smooth and the jacks for the headphone/mic are pretty much jus...
  • Cons: - RCA only for the Front but not really a big cons., - EMI Shield can prevent the use of some custom opamps., - Regular price I guess. I paid only 205$ and for me that is cheap considering it's the best PCI-E soundcard. The better it is the better it feels well invested so it's great value even at this price but you obviously gotta have speakers/headphones of AT LEAST the same price else it's overkill., - Overkill packaging. If for cereal boxes you pay ~20% on average...

Impressed over new motherboard Audio

rkjaj "rkjaj", Amazon
8 January 2014
  • Summary: I have a new pc build and just added this card. I thought my new onboard card was great until I installed the ZXR. After a night of listening to music and calling friends on Skype I have no regrets on buying this card other than cost and concern related to the reliability of the hard ware over the long haul after noting several other reviews on reliability. If this card lasts as long as some of my old sound cards then I might consider it 5 start purchase.

Excellent Hardware, Average Software

Kevin Dillon, Amazon
23 May 2013
  • Summary: Let me start off by saying this is a great product. It replaced my already good ASUS EssenceSTX and is absolutely on par sound quality wise. The Audio Control Module is a useful tool, not only for the beam microphones, but the extra jacks in an easy to reach location is awesome. My only gripe is the software. For starters they removed CMSS 3D. The SBX Pro Studio Surround is not nearly as effective for positional audio. The second thing I dislike is the headphone control.

  • Summary: By christopher soldano Item came and looked and was boxed as expected, which is something I expect from Creative Labs. Item performs as expected, reafferming the reason I bought it in the first place. Would highly recommend if looking for card of this nature.

Great card, much cleaner audio than recon3d.

Sal's Tech Review, Amazon
29 April 2013
  • Summary: When I received this card, I would blown away on how nice the packaging was, makes the product look way more expensive. I also really like the fact that this comes with a control module that allows for plugging in 3.5mm headphones along with the larger connector. I have found that the audio quality is very crisp and clean compared to the recon3d. I also feel this is a major upgrade compared to Realtek on board audio.

Worthy Upgrade from Titanium HD with Caveat

Creative
9 April 2013
  • Summary: By Phrozenspite Okay. First the good news, this card installed without a hitch and everything works great, driver setup was a breeze(which has long been a problem for creative products). This is the best sounding consumer grade card I've ever heard. My previous setup was a Titanium HD feeding lossless to a Fiio E9 desktop amp, so I was intrigued to see the first creative card with a dedicated headphone amp(both normal and high gains).
