Worse than my broken motherboard ports.

Summary: I bought this sound card because my motherboard sound ports were not working properly. They'd cut out, or not work at all, but occasionally they'd be just fine. I figured I'd make it a non-issue and just get a sound card. I read the good, and the bad, reviews and thought: "Nah, that bad stuff won't happen. It must be user error!" I was wrong. Like the other bad reviews, I get to hear the not-so-lovely constant hum when the sound level goes past a whisper.
Summary: Found out hard way that the "Stereo Mix/What U hear" function is non-existent on Windows 7. Here is the Support page from Creative that explains what sound cards are: [...] Now I'm out the $8 return fee from Amazon. Sucks.
Summary: This product is still being sold by Creative Labs through Amazon, and this card or any other Audigy card has no service or tech support from CreativeLabs - it is stated "End of Life" in relation to service. Stay away from this company, they are just greedy - primitive business, isn't it? China is getting expensive... It is a shame - CreativeLabs.
Summary: I read the previous reviews, but since so many said it worked really well I went ahead and bought this to replace a broken sound card. Then, when I installed it, the search for a driver took a long time so I ran the disk. BIG mistake. HUGE. Not only did my computer still not make sounds, but it froze completely. Restarting did not work. Removing the drivers did not work. Restarting in safe mode did work, but it's not like you can operate that way.
Summary: I was very happy with this basic sound card until the color-coded plastic insulation for the sound-out jack broke into pieces and fell away. Not sure exactly how it happened. I do plug and unplug connectors into the jacks a lot so I guess the plastic insulation wasn't strong enough for that. On closer inspection, the plastic does seem to be the hard, brittle kind. I think a softer plastic is needed here. Anyway, the card is now unusable.
Summary: Although advertised to work with Windows 7, the software was a dismal failure. I only wish I had reviewed their forum before purchase. I was only one amongst many with the same experience. Creative has no tech support phone # that I could find on their website. E-mailing back and forth only resulted in "Canned' answers. I gave it every effort but very disappointed. Finally just returned the product to Amazon. P.S.: Amazon is fantastic to deal with.
