  • Summary: You can hook up front audio jacks, you need a J1 connector and some special parts to solder up, search the internet and you will find DIY sites for this.
  • Pros: Good card, great sound. I love it.
  • Cons: Has a awkward J1 connector instead of one that a front panel jack would fit right into (like on board audio has).

Beautiful hardware, shabby home

Scott F., Newegg

  • Summary: Overall an excellent buy. If I had the choice, despite the cons, I'd buy it again. I primarily use the card for recording concerts and playing back my recordings throughout mastering - where maximum quality is a must.
  • Pros: EXCELLENT sound. Great A-D conversion for recording, great SNR ratio for low noise/quality recording freaks like myself. Wide array of hardware FX processing, awesome D-A conversion. I also like the fact that you can have two stereo speaker sets/headphones plugged in simultaneously when using the...
  • Cons: Although this card sounds sweet, what Creative put it all in isn't impressive. The card itself works fine after about six months of use, however the casing is falling apart. The inside end (by the PCMCIA socket) likes to open itself up a little, so I need to press it back together in order to get...

Good...but not great

Anonymous, Newegg

  • Summary: Great card for a great value, but there is better out there.
  • Pros: Great sound quality, alot better than my onboard soundcard which totally stopped working (Internal Sound Card on HP Pavillion ZV6233nr laptop) and the surround sound isn't bad either.
  • Cons: Usually crackles but very light and unnoticable unless you really have good hearing and usually while playing WoW.

Does as expected

michael b., Newegg
30 March 2007
  • Summary: unless your onboard audio goes out (as mine did) or you plan on upgrading to 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, might not be a necessary purchase.
  • Pros: Plays sounds appropriately, has a ton of optional settings to play with if you are a high end audio-geek. Unfortunately, I don't have a 7.1 or even a 5.1 setup; however, from what I have heard of my friends setups, this setup ROCKS when utilized withthe appropriate speaks, now if only I can find ...

Wheres the X-Fi love?

Ari B., Newegg
24 March 2007
  • Summary: Heres the thing: there are no Vista drivers and no plans to make any. Yet Creative stil keeps selling this. Are they nuts? The Xmod is a worthless piece of junk: it works like a USB headset, processing the audio and then passing it on to analog headphones, and is not a real sound card in any...
  • Pros: good card, good sound, much better for notebooks than the USB X-Fi Xmod, updated drivers allow you to play through your notebook's speakers.
  • Cons: see below

Vista 32 & 64 Bit Drivers

Steven C., Newegg
24 March 2007
  • Summary: Newegg is the best! Love these e-mail specials.
  • Pros: Actually, there are drivers for this card here: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?MainCategory=1&nRegionFK=&nCountryFK=&nLanguageFK=&sOSName=Windows+Vista+32-bit®ion=1&Product_Name=Audigy+2+ZS+Notebook&Product_ID=10769&modelnumber=&driverlang=1033&OS=26&drivertype=1&x=31&y=13 ...
  • Cons: No free shipping when I bought mine. And the drivers seem to have some limitations presently. DVD-Audio & Decoding Dolby & DTS to name some big ones.

Great while it lasts

Scott F., Newegg
10 March 2007
  • Summary: Regarding the use of the integrated 1/8" TRS jacks: use the included 7.1 expansion cable and plug your headphones or main speakers into the green plug. This will keep the card's end together for when you need to plug something into it (ie, an optical cable or a microphone).
  • Pros: Excellent SNR for both recording and playback. Supports 192KHz/24 bit recording sample rates, also has optical in/out. Electronic components manufactured well; no dropped samples (that I can tell). Excellent overall sound and great bundled software. Works under XP x64 (download drivers).
  • Cons: Not very well built as far as the shell of the card is concerned. If you plan to plug headphones or speakers into the 1/8" TRS jacks on the card itself, don't. The stress put on that part of the card will cause the plastic to crack; eventually the seams will be pried apart. The inside end of the ...
