Summary: First of all I will point this out, when this sound card was released there was nothing like it at a similar price point (let's say <$250) which for it's time meant that it truly made some other products obsolete, especially once you changed the op-amps for ones that were neutral or close to neutral...
Summary: Main reason why I am hard on this review is because of the fact that mine stopped working on my EVGA Z77 FTW mobo after I switched the SSD and cleaned out my case. I bought a new Asus Z77 Sabertooth mobo, and it still refuses to work.
Pros: Outstanding sound... Not an understatement. Beautiful looking card all around. Switchable OP-amp if that tickles your fancy. Packaging was very good also.
Cons: 4-pin molex connector first and foremost. Not only that, but the way it is built on the board makes it very sensitive when trying to plug in the molex connector. Out of date drivers on disc that only works on XP and Vista systems only. Drivers are a mess in general, and the GUI isn't that great e...
Summary: I actually bought this card based on the really good reviews that it had vs the so-so reviews that the Pheobus card had recieved and am now wondering if I made the correct purchase.
Pros: It's been a few years since I've had a sound card as I have been using onboard audio so I figured I would give it a try and see if it is an inprovement over the on board. Since I have had it for less than a week it is too early to tell but the control panel gives a lot of options so it could be a...
Cons: The biggest con that I have is where are the drivers for Windows 7, I put the cd in and find only drivers for Vista and XP ? Is this some old card that was put for sale from storage and they are trying to get rid of them for a newer model. I'm very confused by this , that I had to go online to th...
Superb for music playback, but pretty awful for recording
10 March 2014
Summary: I bought this card when I first built my latest PC, but I ended up returning it. If all you want is a great quality 2 channel sound card for music playback in this price range, then I can highly recommend this card. The sound quality is absolutely superb for the money.
Summary: This card is great for sound quality, but lacks analog outs for surround sound, and there is no EAX support. Good for audiophile music and movies, but don't use this for gaming and definitely not audio production.
Pros: Great audio clarity, and selectable ohm setting for built-in headphone amp
Cons: -Requires a 4 pin molex power connector.
-Useless gimmicky EMI sheild, A clean power supply makes this feature redundant.
-Not a true PCIe card, it's actually a PCI card with a PCIe bridge chip.
-Slow ASIO 2.0 drivers. You're lucky to get 30 or 40ms latency. Forget about 6ms.
-Card is too pricey ...
Summary: This card delivers in all respects. I've always considered a decent sound card to be a 'must' in order to appreciate my music collection. I've previously been using an M-AUDIO 2496. However, the lack of a PCI slot on my new PC has meant that this had to be replaced.
