For around $90, those looking for a better PC audio experience versus integrated solutions should look to the Xonar DX as a significant upgrade.  Considering how closely the Xonar DX rivals the Xonar D2 Ultra, which sells for nearly double the price, the Xonar DX also looks to be a respectable value. The ASUS Xonar DX is a solid product, well suited to gamers and HTPC users alike. Read more

The slanging match between Asus and Creative over how close DS3D GX 2.0 really is to true EAX 5.0 is likely to continue, but we found it to be pretty effective during the Battlefield 2 test. One of our criticisms of the Xonar D2 was its less impressive Vista game sound support compared with Creative's X-Fi, and this appears to have been minimised. Although the Xonar DX doesn't have the D2's unbeatable audio fidelity, it still provides sound quality equal or superior to... Read more

Asus' new soundcard will easily cover the needs of gamers for 7.1 high quality audio. Comparing the Asus Xonar DX with the previous D2, the most noticeable difference is its lower retail price. DX's retail package is also less complete than its predecessor's since it includes just the essentials. The new card is also much smaller in volume. Other main differences are found at the chips the new Xonar uses. The driver package includes the ASIO mode offering low latency... Read more

Nice sound for the price. It's good to see a decent Creative competitor. While Creative has hit and miss driver releases, Asus is very regular with their updates. If you look around, this is your best bang for your buck. Read more

Works great, very easy to install. I have Windows 7 (64 bit), so I needed to install the Vista 64 divers (The driver/utility disc that came with the card). Please read the manual before installing, because it has the words "need to connect the power for card to work" on the second page...of course I didn't read the manual when I made my first attempt to install the card...so I learn about that later after reading the manual. I've had many sound cards in the past as I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to sound, but I must say that this card is top notch. The Dolby headphones setting is an excellent enhancement to the listening experience and the 3D software works great in high demand games (tested on BFBC2-war tapes mode). A must buy for those who enjoy sound. Read more
