Summary: I'm sure I would have really liked this card if I could have gotten it to work. After installing it and turning off the on board sound I could never get Windows to recognize the card (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit). I tried automatically updating the drivers through the device manager and downloading them directly from Asus, but every time I would try to install them the setup would say that the card was not plugged in.
Summary: This card has been well reviewed by users elsewhere, but for me it was a bit of a disaster. In fact, of the two serious problems I had with it the fact that it just plain didn't work was the less serious one; it failed to plug 'n' play, didn't show up in control panel and device manager could see only a sick unidentifiable audio controller. Maybe it needed the driver loading? Bad move - somehow the driver trashed Windows 7.
Summary: In late 2013 Microsoft changed the sound driver architecture in Windows 7, and as of 2014 ASUS still hasn't fixed the drivers for ANY of their Xonar cards. This causes the card to output sound at 8KHz with *massive* compression artifacts, no matter what the settings. It sounds like a bad Skype call. Stay FAR away from this card and ALL Xonar cards by ASUS. Google "Asus Xonar Stutter" for more info.
Summary: I purchased the wrong one, does not fit my mother board, so still in a box. Have not used the item, but it is probably an ok sound board. I did not realize that there were different mother board connections.
Summary: This came installed on my computer It has never worked very well I had Creative on previous computers and I used to be able to cope with snags But this seems very poor quality. I used to get sound through speakers and occasionally microphone wasted lot of time trying to figure out microphone Now I get noise through headphones There does not seem anything I can do but give up. .
Summary: Despite downloading latest drivers from Asus, I could not get this video card to work with windows 7. With the downloaded drivers installed, I had a number of very bizarre issues. Chrome would not open, explorer would, control panel opened, but could not access any of the icons within control panel. It was necessary for a system restore to sort the problems, i would therefore recommend you create a restore point first if you are going to try and install this card.
Summary: ASUS V Series V2-M2V890 - Micro tower - no CPU - RAM 0 MB - no HDD - Chrome9 - Gigabit Ethernet - Monitor : none in the past I have tried 4 different Asus sound cards on different PCs all with failures. Xonar Essence STX is not compatible with Gigabyte 45C MB. Xonar Essence ST did fit on the Gigabyte but the driver cd LOCKED UP the pc. After lots of hard work & sweating I did manage to unlock the pc,fortunately did not loose any data.
Summary: I just bought this card. Installation was a breeze. Sounds quality is great. However, there's a flaw in the driver. If you hook up an audio front panel from your computer case to this card and plug an pair of headphones into the panel, you'll notice the audio is automatically routed from the speakers connected to the back of the card to the headphones. However, if you unplug the headphones, the audio doesn't route back to the speakers!
