Summary: This is an excellent sound card. The adaptor works great when using headphones and you have the ability to set up your speakers and environment as you desire. I use the optical out along with an amp as I am using some high end headphones and I find the card to work very well.
Pros: - Nice sound quality, and a fair amount of options to tweak sound through the phoebus driver and the dolby settings. - Supports 7.1 analog, or optical through spdif. - Noise cancelling headphones box seems decent... I don't really use it, but seemed to work well enough when I tested it
Cons: The newest driver (still several months old) have been working fine for me. That said, they are very slow to release drivers, and I'd like to feel like they support the card better.
Summary: I was using onboard sound and upgraded to this card. My games and music sound spectacular. Huge improvement. I got this particular card so I could wire my optical cable headphones and 5.1 speakers into the card at the same time (just need to switch between them using the app it came with or...
Summary: If the cost right now is too daunting, hold off until the price goes down to get one. For overall quality and for gaming needs it's hard to go wrong with this card and should serve you well for years to come.
Pros: Proved to be a true upgrade over my X-Fi compared to the disappointing hardware in the Recon3D. Comparable features such as dedicated headphone and speaker ports switchable with a click of a mouse are offered here without the downgrade in SnR or speaker support (7.1 can be done on this card, the ...
Cons: -Only came with a quick start guide, so for a full manual you'll need to go to Asus' site. Exploring the numerous options without a manual on hand can be daunting at first. -The original set of drivers didn't play nice with Punkbuster games like BF3 but there are beta drivers online to address th...
Summary: First of all, use the beta drivers and not the ones on the CD. I had to knock 1 star off because of the current driver status. The beta drivers seem to correct many of the previous issues with certain games and settings.
Pros: asus has released an update to fix issue with Battle Field 3 and Punkbuster
Cons: 1- u have to uninstall older driver completely before installing new driver. 2-do not switch Xonar Phoebus to other PCI-E slots when Xonar driver of any version is installed. If you want to change slot, please make sure the driver has been uninstalled completely
Summary: I've decided to update my review since I finally now have headphones that work with this card. However, I will start with a bit of warning to users of Bose QuietComfort 3 headphones. My pair will only work with this card if they are plugged into the speaker port.
Excerpt: The sound card itself is great, awesome positional sound, good clarity and depth aswell. My reason for a non 5star score is because of the seemingly useless additional connection box. For the extra you have to pay it simply isn't worth it. JUST BY THE CARD....nothing more, nothing less. Peace Fatman
