Excerpt: When I purchased the West Bend 6-Quart Versatility Slow Cooker I had only planned on using it to cook chicken, rice, and soups, but once I grasped the full capabilities of this crock pot it has become my all purpose cooking machine. This crock pot cooks rice and chicken very well.
Summary: The best thing about the West Bend Versatility Slow Cooker is that unlike other slow cooker this one can be put on the stove directly over a flame to brown meat before beginning the slow cooking process. You can also use this option to heat up the contents quickly before putting it on the warmer.
Summary: This is the third cooker like this that I have purchased and I have loved everyone of them. I have used them up. The only thing that I don't like about this one is the handles are hot to touch.
Summary: This is my 3rd West Bend slow cooker in almost 48 years of marriage and I could not be more disappointed! First had a round one but broke the glass lid. Then bought oval and loved it's many years of service but eventually the non stick coating was thin on bottom.
Excerpt: This is one of my favorite slow cookers I own, and I own a couple. The design of it is beautiful. I love the fact that the hot plate and pot separate from one another. I typically start making my meals on the stove while I warm the hot plate to temperature.
Summary: Well sorry folks but I spoke too soon on this slow cooker. I was fixing a chicken dish in the West Bend slow cooker and had to brown the chicken in the pot on top of the cooktop. When that was finished I put the pot on the griddle/heater and found that the pot had WARPED!
Summary: This is the 3rd slow cooker with heated base that I have had in 30+ years. By far this is the worst one as far as durability that I have owned. In the past the interior bottom of the cooker has worn and the coating has become scratched and has worn away in spots after YEARS of ownership and use.
