Summary: This was a replacement after my original Braun shaver required a new foil cover which on enquiring was told that parts for the particular model were now obsolete, not really surprising as it was over 30 years old, not a bad advert for Braun shavers !! This new one is excellent and would recommend it to anyone.
Summary: I purchased this because BRAUN (PROCTOR & GAMBLE), informed me that they no longer made a foil replacement for my ACTIVATOR 8585, the 50S, instead I would have to buy the 51S, which quite frankly just rips hair out yer face, so I thought I'd buy a new BRAUN as I'd had my ACTIVATOR for 9 years, the new shaver was pants, sounded like a moped whilst mine sounded like a harley, it was all plastic, didn't look up to the job at all, unlike my nice chrome effect metal solid as...
Summary: Having finally decided to throw away by own trusty Braun 8595 shaver I had had for over 8 years I ordered this one. I couldn't be more happy, the build quality is excellent and the save performance is also great. It takes me a lot less time to shave now and the results are better. I did toy with ordering the more expensive series 7 shaver but am so glad I didn't. This one comes with a very handy travel case and travel cord, as well as the usual clean and renew system.
Summary: Other reviewers have explained the way this shaver operates so I won't repeat what they say. What I will do is to highlight some areas and compare how well Braun have developed their products over the years. Our old Braun syncro gave us good service for many years, but it finally died so had to be replaced. Having tried the rotating head types before and found them unsatisfactory, we decided to stay with the foil head we were used to.
Summary: This is my 7th or 8th electric razor over some 60 years and without doubt the best. The shaving heads get very close to the skin but also cut longer hairs easily and all without any damage to the skin itself. The clean and renew system, using an alcohol-based cleaning liquid which has to be renewed from time to time, does seem to leave the razor head thoroughly cleaned and with a nice, fresh smell.
Summary: Having tried a Panasonic, which gave a very close wet shave, but was faulty, I bought Braun, which I have used for many years. In my estimation this model gives a poorer result than a number of the Brauns I have bought before, which is a big disappointment. I have a light beard, but stubble reappears by late pm. The Panasonic gave a far superior result but could cut the skin and was horrendously noisy.
Summary: Now I am a bonafide fan of the wet shave, and have preferred my manky old Mach 3 over every electric shaver I've ever tried. Electric shavers just don't seem to match up to the speed, closeness and precision of a razor. The Braun 590-cc is the daddy of the Braun range, and is the closest I have come to hanging up my shaving brush and razor for good. The unit itself is robust, attractive in a manly way, looking somewhat like a power tool.
