Great entry level server

anton v., Newegg
22 July 2015
  • Pros: Inexpensive, built for 24x7 uptime and reliability, easy to configure. I use these for small office server needs with RAID 0 configuration.
  • Cons: can't think of any

Worked out perfectly

SAMARA S., Newegg
3 March 2013
  • Summary: -Installed WS 2012 Standard on the box - all drivers work fine but you cannot use the included SmartStart CD with it. I installed manually. -Shipped fast - like way fast - like way too fast. Three day business shipping turned out to be next-day.
  • Pros: -Shipped fast - see other thoughts -Indeed no hard drive trays included, but I bought off-lease genuine HP ones from a popular auction site for $10 a piece. The lights work on them which is a must IMO. -Accepted an add-on p212/256 controller no sweat in slot 2; the included SAS cable from the onb...
  • Cons: -Thanks to everyone's input here, planned and executed well, no real cons. -Yes, the onboard RAID is rather light duty, but the server that this guy is replacing ran software RAID 1 for three years, and saved their rear when one of the disks failed. Don't knock software RAID too much, it does the...

Great Server

David C., Newegg
30 January 2013
  • Summary: Well done server with easy support from HP's website.
  • Pros: Easy to configure, all required Windows software comes on CD or an easy download from HP if you wish to run Windows. Easy to add drives (must purchase drive cages, $15/ea, from another major commerce site). Easy to add separate ILO3 port for $30, so that no ILO traffic goes over the 2 include NIC...
  • Cons: I wish HP had an ML110 G8 on offer, as that would typically include the E3-xxxx-v2 lineup of CPUs, which offer slightly lower power use. I wish it could be expanded past 32GB, but I'm aware that's a function of the chipset and has nothing to do with HP. Other than that, it's a great entry level, ...

A real server at a great price!

Anthony D., Newegg
4 January 2013
  • Summary: If this server is in your price range, no reason to look else where.
  • Pros: Excellent build quality. Very useful remote management capabilities. Excellent support from HP. Returned a Lenovo server for this server and couldn't be happier.
  • Cons: Should include the drive rail kit for at least one drive. Still not a deal breaker but would have been nice to avoid the hassle of ordering one.

Nice server at this price

Michael L., Newegg
13 October 2012
  • Summary: Haven't quite gotten ILO3 to work yet on the second NIC.
  • Pros: I got this server to replace an old Dell SC420 that's starting to fail. I specifically wanted hardware RAID5 so I also bought a used HP SmartArray P212 controller along with three new Seagate 2TB SATA drives (from Newegg) and three drive tray caddies. Hooked everything together and I now have a R...
  • Cons: The embedded RAID does not support hardware RAID5 and you have to buy drive trays. Routing internal cables around and under the plastic fan tray was a little tricky when I installed the P212. Note that this server uses full-height brackets for the PCIe cards.

Great Server

MELANIE R., Newegg
20 September 2012
  • Summary: We've moved away from building servers from scratch, and going with HP proliant systems. This server is turning out to be the sweet spot between cost and performance. Quad Xeon is perfect for an office of 25 users or less.
  • Pros: Compact, quiet, nice front cover hinges or removes completely, takes all kinds of RAM, fast.
  • Cons: As another said, it's got a long boot up time. The post process is like watching a dozen previews at the theater. It's entertaining and informative, but slow. I used the buy the drive trays from that jungle store, but now Newegg carries them. Look for item 9SIA1KT0ER3515

Supports 32GB of RAM

Ty A., Newegg
13 September 2012
  • Pros: Solid server for the price. My primary use for this server is as a VMware lab server since the CPU supports EPT which allows virtualization passthrough to nested VMs. Installed ESXi 5.1, change BIOS power settings to OS Control. The C state settings were correct at default to prevent PSOD. Since ...
  • Cons: No real cons. A real RAID controller would be nice, but for the price that's acceptable.

Great server for small business

Michael N., Newegg
22 August 2012
  • Summary: You do not need HP hard drives, i'm using Western Digital RE4's with a LSI RAID adapter just fine.
  • Pros: Great price point, not loud, does not take up a lot of room. Fast CPU, quality case. "Lights-out" remote management capabilities.
  • Cons: You do need to buy drive trays which can be found on other vendors sites for around $15. Motherboard raid is not hardware raid, you are better off buying a raid controller, the case includes a cable to connect the backplane to a raid controller. Motherboard raid may be ok for very small shops but...

5 month review

Pejman D., Newegg
18 June 2012
  • Pros: Overall I'm very happy with this server - Runs ESX 5.0 with a BIOS tweak (google it) - iLO3 is on port 1. (google it for the advanced iLO3 activation code) - ProLiant SmartStart is superior to what Dell has
  • Cons: - Can't do RAID 1 in ESX 5.0 because the SmartArray B110i is not recognized. - ESX will crash on boot if you don't do the CPU tweak in the BIOS.
