  • Summary: -Installed WS 2012 Standard on the box - all drivers work fine but you cannot use the included SmartStart CD with it. I installed manually.
  • Pros: -Shipped fast - see other thoughts
  • Cons: -Thanks to everyone's input here, planned and executed well, no real cons.

Great Server

dcl, Newegg
30 January 2013
  • Summary: Well done server with easy support from HP's website.
  • Pros: Easy to configure, all required Windows software comes on CD or an easy download from HP if you wish to run Windows.
  • Cons: I wish HP had an ML110 G8 on offer, as that would typically include the E3-xxxx-v2 lineup of CPUs, which offer slightly lower power use. I wish it could be expanded past 32GB, but I'm aware that's a function of the chipset and has nothing to do with HP. Other than that, it's a great entry level, ...

A real server at a great price!

adidino, Newegg
4 January 2013
  • Summary: If this server is in your price range, no reason to look else where.
  • Pros: Excellent build quality. Very useful remote management capabilities. Excellent support from HP. Returned a Lenovo server for this server and couldn't be happier.
  • Cons: Should include the drive rail kit for at least one drive. Still not a deal breaker but would have been nice to avoid the hassle of ordering one.

  • Summary: Surprisingly doesn't get too loud. I've only had 2 or so VMs running at a time on it and it has handled wonderfully.
  • Pros: Got this on sale for $299.
  • Cons: Not hot swappable drives but for the price it's fine

Nice server at this price

-DC-, Newegg
13 October 2012
  • Summary: Haven't quite gotten ILO3 to work yet on the second NIC.
  • Pros: I got this server to replace an old Dell SC420 that's starting to fail. I specifically wanted hardware RAID5 so I also bought a used HP SmartArray P212 controller along with three new Seagate 2TB SATA drives (from Newegg) and three drive tray caddies. Hooked everything together and I now have a R...
  • Cons: The embedded RAID does not support hardware RAID5 and you have to buy drive trays. Routing internal cables around and under the plastic fan tray was a little tricky when I installed the P212. Note that this server uses full-height brackets for the PCIe cards.

  • Pros: I did not want to poste a review about this good hardware, but when I saw this retarted paying $300 for such a server and complaining about a stupid fan. Come on! The CPU by itself cost $130, the 250GB HDD cost $60, the case and drive cage cost $140, not to mention the memory, the CDROM, the desi...
  • Cons: none.

Great Value

N/A, Newegg
26 September 2012
  • Summary: I am in love with these servers -- I bought one at $399 and another at $349, and I intend to buy one more if it goes on sale at a low price like that again. It's a great value!
  • Pros: Great price! Easy to work with, and relatively nice. Good speed, nicely organized case. For this price, you won't find anything better! I really, really like these servers. They're not the quality of a $2500 server, but for ~$400 you'll be shocked at how nice it is. I've paid a lot more and gotte...
  • Cons: The first one I got had the heatsink-fan installed incorrectly, with the fan facing down. There was also a case fan just floating around inside the case. No big deal - fixed both issues and it's been great ever since. Make sure to open it up and look at it before you use it.

Supports 32GB of RAM

ty_a, Newegg
13 September 2012
  • Pros: Solid server for the price. My primary use for this server is as a VMware lab server since the CPU supports EPT which allows virtualization passthrough to nested VMs. Installed ESXi 5.1, change BIOS power settings to OS Control. The C state settings were correct at default to prevent PSOD.
  • Cons: No real cons. A real RAID controller would be nice, but for the price that's acceptable.
