bad PCI express slot position

Derek N., Newegg
27 April 2013
  • Summary: Not reliable motherboard... and VGA output. System update, such as BIOS and driver is very slow and limited.
  • Pros: This is addition to the previous comment I wrote, I forgot to mention this. There is a PCI express card slot, which allow user to upgrade the video card.
  • Cons: However, the PCI express slot is a position bad or the case designed a little "mis-calculated". Basically, it is on the "2nd" slot on the board, if we count from the left. It is very close to the case, so that type of video is actually very limited, because of the high-sink or fan. Any decent car...

Video Dead after 5 months, Newegg NOT authorized HP Dealer,

Derek N., Newegg
26 April 2013
  • Summary: Although I purchased it on early 2012, I didn't use it until 10 months later. It was kept in box all the time. After 5 months of use, the VGA output is dead. I couldn't do remote connection, and needed to connect locally. It just have no output on monitor.
  • Pros: 1.) Relatively small, and efficient design, good quality case. 2.) 4 bays easy pull out design 3.) Intel Processor and expandable memory slot 4.) 6 USB ports and Ethernet 5.) front opening for easy drives pull out 6.) Decent BIOS 7.) Include "most" of the screws you need
  • Cons: 1.) Video (VGA) output dead after 5 months 2.) Drive pull out rack is too plastic and soft, they are "band-able" 3.) Newegg is not HP authorized Dealer, therefore the warrant DOES NOT start from the date you purchase. It starts from the date NewEgg purchase from other

Mixed Bag

Ronald S., Newegg
20 December 2012
  • Pros: Quiet. Easy to remove top cover.
  • Cons: Installed 2 Red Drives, only seeing one so far. Installing Windows 8 Pro as I write this so we will see if that gets fixed. Installed an ASUS SATA DVD Burner in the top slot, would not boot with it connected. Had to dig up SATA cable and power adaptor myself as this was not included. The error I ...

Power supply issues

JBCincy, Amazon
4 December 2012
  • Summary: I'm having issues with this server since it arrived at my door. The light behind the HP emblem stays red and often will not power on. The fan runs at low speed and the network light are on so there is some power. I did have it working for about 3 weeks but then it happened again.

Great Design, SLOW CPU!

Jon, Amazon
18 July 2012
  • Summary: I'd gladly use this as my WHS 2011 home server if I could upgrade the CPU. The dual core 1.5GHz is just WAY too slow. If you're moving stuff around, the server is slow as dirt. GREAT design, too bad we can't upgrade the CPU to something a bit faster.

Great Hardware - Poor Connector DEsign

Chris A., Newegg
10 February 2012
  • Summary: This appears to be a great little machine, but the mini-SAS connector is a serious defect.
  • Pros: Bought this in a recent bundle; based on reviews here and elsewhere. Looking forward to setting up WHS 2011. Processor is adequate for the task; supposedly runs quiet Problem is, I'm now on my second one and can't configure hardware.
  • Cons: Removing the mini-SAS connector is a @)#)@)@ pain. RMA'd one, got replacement same problem. . Will contact HP support for assistance. Really afraid of damaging mobo or breaking connector. Single biggest flaw with this machine. . you have to disconnect the mini-SAS connector to access the Mobo to ...

The PSU fan is too loud

Ralph H., Newegg
26 January 2012
  • Summary: Had it not been for the noise issue, I would have definitely kept this little server since it otherwise fits my needs pretty well. The noise is a deal breaker so it only gets 2/5
  • Pros: * Small * Lots of USB ports * Cheap given what you get * You don't have to pay extra for the OS * Excellent tech support from HP (you apparently get free overnight shipping on all replacement parts from them as part of your warranty)
  • Cons: Not quiet at all. This needs to sit next to me on my desk and the fan noise generated by this was loud enough to be annoying. The mesh front, while great for cooling, means that there isn't really a barrier between me and the noise. The sad part is, most of the noise is generated by the power sup...

Could have been

Robert K., Newegg
7 December 2011
  • Pros: Nice concept, very versatile design, reasonable price.
  • Cons: Power supply fan emits LOUD screeching whine that can be heard three rooms away in my house. This renders the unit useless to me, in spite of the other features. I'm not the only one with this problem, seems to be hit or miss but widespread. Read the tech boards! Too bad, I was hoping...
