Best $200 I have spent in a long time

Summary: Upgrade to 2GB RAM and your performance will improve significantly. Server is still going strong and does everything I need of it for a small home network (running 5 Windows 7 PCs). Easy local backups and automated online backup third party provider for pennies a month gives us piece of mind.
Summary: This never was very easy to use and then died causing my wife and I to lose a number of pictures that were important to us. I use Google Drive now as backup and there is no reason for this to exist in my life.
Summary: The media server came minus the hard drive. The seller was excellent. delivery was on time and after sales service was great. we were able to quickly resolve the issue. I have installed a 1TB hard drive and the media server is performing well.
Summary: i received this item in a big box with not enough packaging material , the inside of this item contains very fragile electronic parts and bulb filaments that would be damage if being bounced around due to this being poorly packaged .i did not want to take any chances and returned it .
Summary: Everyone has different requirements for a NAS, but a simple server for backing up multiple computers in my family was all I needed. Additionally, needed to be quiet and unobtrusive because it sits in my office and I didn't want an ugly noisy box. This product fits the requirements perfectly.
Summary: The good news: HP support in Canada has been excellent although of course everything is time consuming. The bad news: 1. The product is not reliable. We have had two hard drive failures. After about 6 months the server started disconnecting and had to be powered down and up again.
Summary: We have a home network with two PCs and two Macs, and this server seemed like a good solution for storage and backups. The advertised support for Mac Time Machine backups was a particular enticement, so when we saw a special offer that made the price very reasonable, we bought one.
Summary: Going cheap...you get what you pay for. I am now going to buy a superior HW setup (Low End Server) and do my own install. I'll spend 70-90 bucks less than a new HP EX490
Pros: Started out as a great inexpensive server. My needs were backup, remote access and centralized storage of pics, videos, music for the family (7 PCs). Easy for me to setup, even the server restore went better than I thought it would. Support was good (during warranty period)...
Cons: Hard Drive Controller/Cable issues. I have researched, worked with support on this nagging issue. No one seems to have any answers. Event Viewer shows Parity Errors in the Disk and Controller errors all leading up to a system lockup. real intermittent. HP replaced the Drive....problem came back a...
Summary: This MediaSmart server was a breeze to connect to our wireless network router. Once connected it has run well for some time now. Our only complaint is a complaint with many home servers and that is there appearance. I don't mind having the server visible to everyone, but my wife hates it.
