Terrell J., Newegg
8 April 2010
  • Summary: i got more than a few gripes with this thing, but this is my first home server, and my first time using windows server so i dont what whats windws server fault and whats HP's Fault * it gives you these annoying messages about the health of your network, which computers are using outdates client...
  • Pros: *store your stuff and have it online on your network all day for easy access, even if you turn off your computer. in this way its better than buying external harddrives. * VERY Easy to Add More Storage
  • Cons: #1 con is when you add a new HDD to this baby, it will give you 2 options, automatically format it or use it to backup existing drives. in either case it formats your drive. You See it Recognizes all your Drives as One Huge Storage Space so when You Add Data, It doesnt allow you to pick a HDD to ...

Great product but hard to make it useful

Michael H., Newegg
15 January 2010
  • Summary: I'm not an expert with servers, but I do know a fairly good amount about PCs and laptops. The server installed very easily - about 20 minutes. However, taking advantage of all the functionality on the server was a real challenge.
  • Pros: Wonderful functionality for a very good price Nice user interface Seemless backup functionality Outstanding tech support (and I needed it) Great web interface for the Grandparents to use to see pictures and videos of their grandkids. Very user friendly. Once all the functionality is up and runnin...
  • Cons: Remarkably hard to take advantage of all the functionality right out of the box. Needed lots of help. I was on the phone with tech support 9 different times - sometimes for hours at a time. My hard drive failed after 1 day and they had to send me a new one There was also a Twonky bug that forced ...

John L., Newegg
6 January 2010
  • Summary: The Seagate 7200.12, (7,200RPM) harddrive it comes with is the noisiest part of the box. Its not that loud, but with a 5,400 rpm drive its almost silent.
  • Pros: Very quiet, very expandable with 4 bays, e-sata (can support multi external sata drives), and USB. Very cool LED and HP's custom interface improves usability.
  • Cons: The HP connector software for initial setup from the CD didn't work for me. I had to connect the harddrive it comes with my PC to copy the newer software to my PC. System Restore process just plain doesn't work for most people. It is very finicky. GL if you need to restore your system to use a di...
