Decent if you have older processors

James B., Newegg
8 March 2015
  • Pros: Good MOBO layout with lots of space. Great HD chassis and system with separate but encased RAID backplane.
  • Cons: Even though it claims to support all Xeon E5-2600 series processors, it does not! Anything V3 and up simply won't fit, since the board notchings have changed. Anything V2 and up won't work until you upgrade the BIOS, which requires a V1 processor. Power supply seems a little low for this system.

Stay away

Steve W., Newegg
25 August 2014
  • Summary: They are great, until.......
  • Pros: Cheap, Barebones server, BMC
  • Cons: I have 23 of these online. Three of them (one recently) had a complete RAID corruption happen without warning. I have setup RAID10 on the LSI onboard and also RAID5 with a hotspare and seen both configurations completely fail. That is NOT what RAID is for and neither should have happened. If you ...

DOA - No Support

RICKY E., Newegg
3 May 2014
  • Summary: I'm a Microsoft Partner OEM system builder and I used to use their server barebones and motherboards in all my builds. After this experience, No more ASUS for me.
  • Pros: none since it was DOA
  • Cons: Unit would not POST. Thought it was a bios issue since the processors I ordered were newer so I ordered a bios upgrade chip as directed by support. When that didn't fix it, I ordered an older processor that would be supported by the bios on the motherboard. Still wouldn't POST. Support is giving ...

  • Summary: Slow to update with windows 2012 r2 drivers....
  • Pros: Bundle
  • Cons: Scary - wouldn't restart after reboot last night. Removed from service-plugged in an 8pin power cable to mobo and will not start...I am afraid mobo is failing and very scared bcuz of production status of machine..

Swing and a miss.

Chris L., Newegg
25 November 2013
  • Summary: It's cheap, but considering that you need to spend another $100 or so to get decent cooling and power- just get the Supermicro.
  • Pros: Cheap, probably ok for pure "server" use
  • Cons: There are a bunch of issues that I have with this setup, particularly if it's being used as a workstation (the motherboard, the Z9PA-D8, is indicated for dual server/workstation focus). For one, the power supply is not up to snuff- 500w in a dual CPU workstation is cutting it close in this day an...

Another ASUS Success

Timothy T., Newegg
14 August 2013
  • Summary: I would definitely buy another one and recommend this box.
  • Pros: This server rocks and is amazingly affordable. Everything in the box was assembled and ready to go (mobo, power supply, DVD drive, etc). I installed 2 CPUs, 4 HDs and 64GB RAM, and had this system up and running in less than an hour. Onboard ROMs provide two different raid utilities which are eas...
  • Cons: I wish it came with the Pike RAID card second HD bay (it comes with 1 bay to hot-swap up to 4 drives, and supports a second bay). These will be additional expenses in the future.

Support is Horrible

Anonymous, Newegg
28 June 2013
  • Summary: Can save you money building your own but don't expect much from support
  • Pros: Looked promising
  • Cons: Arrived DOA--installed RAM and CPU. Nothing. Contacted support and in addition to taking about 3 to 5 minutes between each chat they were very unhelpful in trying to get me a replacement--seemed OK with me returning it to newegg as a DOA
