Apple Xserve

PC Magazine
22 February 2008
  • Conclusion: This 1U box is a bit on the pricey side and still doesn't behave all that smoothly with Windows clients. But, once configured, the Xserve has a lot to offer an SMB, whether it has a Unix heavyweight or a tech generalist on staff.
  • Pros: Easy-install option for non-IT professionals. Good out-of-band and remote management. Leopard Server OS rivals Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 for all-around functionality.
  • Cons: Available only in a 1U with just three drive bays. Expensive for its configuration. Windows networking still unreliable. Apple is heavily pushing costly Fibre Channel external storage.

Apple's Nehalem Xserve serves the need for speed

Good Gear Guide.au
6 May 2009
  • Conclusion: Apple's Nehalem Xserve packs more into one rack unit than any other server. For one price, you get a best-in-class server and a commercial Unix OS with unlimited client licenses, plus a foolproof management GUI.
  • Pros: A fast, energy-efficient, and cost-effective dual-socket 1U rack server. The enormous leap in memory bandwidth makes it possible to do so much more work in the same space, Nehalem and Mac OS X seem positively made for each other
  • Cons: Nehalem Xserve is not everything it could be, lower power consumption at idle would be a benefit

Apple Xserve review

IT PRO
27 April 2009
  • Summary: The Xserve gets all the benefits of Apple’s unique design and build quality so you know this server is going to last the course. It looks a lot better value than previous Xserve models and this is made all the better by the unlimited client license for the Leopard OS.

Apple Xserve

IT PRO
19 June 2007
  • Summary: The Xserve is far from cheap, in fact it rates among the most expensive 1U rack servers on the market when compared with its Windows-based x86 counterparts. However, few servers on the market at any price can offer the same combination of build quality, performance, backward hardware compatibility...

Apple Xserve

pcmag.ru
6 July 2008
Fibre Channel.

Apple 'Intel Powered' Xserve: Wel of geen alternatief?

Hardware.Info
2 April 2007
