Summary: I wanted this scanner for scanning old family photos, some of which are in albums. When using the docking station, the scanner must be plugged into an outlet or computer. Each time I've used the docking station, the scanner has lost power between scans. One minute I'm scanning photos, the next the photos won't feed. It took a while to realize that a loss of power was the problem.

Summary: The Nuance Paperport 14 Digital Download Software that came with the Vu-Point Magic Wand seems to be purposely designed to be extremely difficult or impossible to download. Of course, there is no viable solution or technical support for this obvious " empty promise" of a paper port 14 download with no solution in sight. This leaves a bitter taste in my memory for Nuance and a vendor that is complicit with such misdealings.
Summary: I am a Graphic Designer and Illustrator and I bought this scanner hoping it would take care of some large format needs. It works great and the DPI is clear. But if you don't have the Docking Station your scans may become distorted. Now I am finding myself looking into the price of the Docking Station and also alternative scanning solutions.
Summary: In spite of the name, there is nothing magic about this product. The quality of the scan depends on how carefully and smoothly you move the wand. It is very easy to goof and have entire lines of text not be readable. If you want a quality scan, you have to use the docking station. And, there is a major problem with the docking station convenience. You must plug the USB cable into the docking station to power it, but, you can't transfer the scans to your computer!
