Durable and long lasting

Brian, Amazon
26 February 2014
  • Summary: I have owned this scanner for probably ten years and has never let me down. The bulb is still good as new. I have used this scanner at home with moderate use making sure to shut it off when not in use. It obviously is not the newest and fastest scanner but for me it has been time tested. My purchase originally was not from Amazon but wanted to respond to the people saying that it will not work with Windows 7. This is false.

EXCELLENT Scanner

Mayet, Amazon
13 January 2013
  • Summary: I've had this model scanner since 2003 and it's the best scanner I've ever used. In fact, this is my 2nd version of the same model. The negative templates for the 1st one were lost in a move, so I bought a 2nd one to get the negative templates. It scans negatives back into photos in seconds and the quality is excellent! It's very fast and very quiet.

Great Scanner - Great Price!!!

singinggator, Ebay
13 September 2011
  • Summary: This is one of the best desk top scanners that I have used. I have two, one at work and one at home so that I can email the files back and forth. My fear is that they will discontinue this model. It works with every operating system that I have ever had. Great machine.

I love this scanner

Retired in California, Amazon
14 April 2011
  • Summary: I've had this scanner for over 10 years and it's never let me down, and I love it. I can take a small snapshot and enlarge it, or enhance it or re-size it, and print it out as an 8x10 for a display, or save it on the desktop as a .jpg and then e-mail it to friends. I use the scanner as a xerox machine, saving copies of insurance papers, etc., before I send off the originals.

Won't work under Windows 7

Richard Pasco, Amazon
27 May 2010
  • Summary: Recently my beloved Windows XP computer died and was replaced with a new one running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Unfortunately under Windows 7, Visioneer's driver for the 8920 cannot communicate with the scanner hardware. The driver is only advertised as working through Windows XP and, as far as I can tell, will simply NOT WORK under Windows 7.

"Okay Scanner, lousy software"

CNET
1 September 2004
  • Pros: Slide scanning included.
  • Cons: The PaperPort software is lousy. It loads at least three dumb apps in the startup folder (watch your boot time slow down!). Plus it has some flakey issues with Winxp. Forget this thing. It stinks.

"Horrible colors"

CNET
23 April 2004
  • Pros: Interesting design, buttons are a snap, easy to set up
  • Cons: Image quality and color reproduction were marginal when it was new. Color reproduction has progressivly deteriorated to the point where although the scanner mechanically functions, I cannot use it. It's easy to accidently hit the buttons when loading the

Scans OK when the software is working...

gottleib, epinions.com
16 April 2004
  • Summary: I'd recommend this scanner only if it could be bought for around $80.
  • Pros: When working properly, the 8920 seems to do an adequate job.
  • Cons: Lackluster software.
