Summary: Small, simple, and does the job. With about 1800 slides of family history to scan, this thing was just what the doctor ordered. I was able to get some serious high res results and it was pretty easy to use even for a novice. Small desktop footprint so my desk wasn't a mess. I shopped around and found this scanner to be the right one for the job. Although I felt the price was a bit high, it turned out to be well worth it after all.
After completing an involved software setup, the Scanner is fantastic!

Summary: I did not anything about these. I researched on line and on eBay and made the decision to purchase one for semi-pro work, saving old film and slides (35mm only) and use my iMac. I got a great item hardly used, but it took some time to setup the SilverFast software. It was not the product's fault, but a matter of reading and understanding well the instructions. Once setup, I am very pleased with the settings, quality, speed of scans and ease of use.
Summary: I am another one of the "I have several thousand negatives and need to scan ..." and also a former owner of two Nikon scanners that died due to age and that the camera tech center I use was not getting replacement parts so I am also searching for alternatives (very few now) to non Nikon-Non Minolta-nor drum scanning, etc. I have read as much as anyone about these scanners and came to the conclusion I needed this model as I only scan B&W 135 film.
Summary: So far I have scanned in over 1500 slides and about 35 negatives. While the process can be somewhat slow I have been very pleased with the results. Putting in the slide tray can be somewhat "vague" at times - an error message comes on if the alignment is not correct. But this does not happen much anymore since I've developed a "feel" for the trays. I haven't had to modify the images very much - I generally saved only my "good" slides.
Summary: I bought this item to try and preserve a lot of 35 mm slides. The software could be a little better as far as being more user friendly. The slide scanner itself is well made and very durable. I think it was taking way too long to scan files, so I decided to have a local company do the whole lot. It cost me more, but I was looking at about a thousand slides to convert. It took me a day to get it set up, learn how to use the software and start scanning.
Summary: After 45 years of searching I found my lost transparency of Jimi Hendrix in 2010. I photographed Jimi in January 1967. I own all the copyrights. The condition of the photograph was very, very poor. I scanned the image on my original Plustek 7300 bought from Amazon and I have just upgraded to the 7400 recently. In the process of restoration I also had high end drum scans made but I found the Plusteck very clean and sharp and have used these images.
Summary: I got this scanner yesterday. I've been trying to install it for over an hour. My computer has the WIndows 7 operating system and none of the installation instructions actually work on my computer. I finally got the hardware and software installed, but then the hardware said it couldn't find the software and the software said it couldn't find the hardware.
Summary: The quality of the scans this thing makes is pretty good, as far as I can tell. However, actually using the scanner is kind of a terrible experience. If you like to scan your negatives shortly after getting them back from processing, don't get this scanner. It's incredibly difficult to position the negative strip correctly in the carrier. It has a tendency to shift as you click it shut, especially if the strip is fewer than 6 frames or curly.
Summary: After about 10 months of use scanning my way through several thousands of negatives (BW & colour)I uncovered a "forgotten" cache of old Agfa 110 format 100ASA negatives. Plustek does not supply a 110 adaptor, however I was able to find a "pro-quality" one at [...]. using the Agfa film preset in Silverlight with some sharpening and midtone adjustment, the 7400 was able to generate images significantly better than the original 1hr photo prints and almost on a par with some...
